67-72 Suburban OE seats

This thread is only for OE seats for 67-72 Suburbans.
There are often questions pertaining to type of benches, and what type of brackets and hold downs were used.
So I thought that this should be a sticky thread, and for reference only when it comes to the Original Equipment seating of the 67-72 Suburban.

This includes brackets, and upholstery that were Original to the 67-72 Chevrolet and GMC Suburbans.

Often FAQ's

Will a 1972 bench seat work in my 1967 Suburban - Yes
All 67-72 benches will interchange.

Are the brackets reproduced, who makes them? - At this time 02/2016 no one is making brackets.

Are the hold down brackets reproduced, who makes them? - Yes, these can be found from various vendors. But be sure to include Blazers in your search, since often times they are sold only as Blazer brackets.

3rd row underside. Your 67-72 Suburban should have come with the steel cross beam that has the holes and captured nuts for the hold downs. Here are a couple pictures of what they look like from the fender well.

So I can change out my 2nd row seat for my 1st row? My 1st row is kinda breaking down on the sides where I get in.

I can only speak of my '72. The front and rear seat frames are totally different. The front bench seat is mostly rectangular tubing with real upholstery style springs.

The rear seat is made from round tubing with large square mesh wires for the foam support.

You could probably swap them but it would take fabrication (welding) to make the sliders fit.

I didn't think to take pictures when I had mine all apart.

I have never seen a full bench 2nd row converted to 1st row.
I suppose anything is possible though.

I am running 1970 seat frames that have been covered in 67-68 style, and they are different than the 67-68 from what I have noticed.
When I was rebuilding my 1st row bench that had broken springs, I found that 67-68 springs were different from the 69-70 and 71-72.

We just added some detailed 71 suburban 2nd and 3rd row (RPO A80 center and rear seat) pictures in post #10/11 of the below linked thread. Originally pulled the seats out and took the pictures for that thread but they probably could of been added here for future reference. Mel

Seat height is different between 1st and 2nd row seats as well.

Hello. New to the Suburban lifestyle. Picked up a 70 with full width 2nd row. I am deployed and trying to research reupholstery for the 2nd row and am not home to measure anything. Question: Is the reupholstery the same for the 1st row and 2nd row of seats or where can I find the measurements? I have been scouring the 67-72 blogs and parts sites but am unsure. Thanks a bunch.

Vector, how do outside seat belts attach to your 3rd row. Mine are backwards from yours to allow the outer seat belts a place to mount to but not the center two brackets.

For now I just removed the center brackets until I get it right. I mounted the belts right to the floor in the center location.

I see a lot of seats that have two rear brackets, not four.

I think your floor brackets are mixed up.
The one's with the hole for the seat belt with the buckle go in the middle, and the other end of the seat belt bolt to the side bolt that holds the back of the bench to the seat.

Welcome to the forum!
I do not have a full width second row to measure for you, maybe someone here who does can do that.
My guess is that the upholstery for the full second is a very close match to the front, but I would pay close attention to the joint where the two benches are joined. Typically the 2 and 3 benches are a little different, but I am not sure how that would affect you using the front cover for a 2nd row bench.
Being that the new covers are pretty spendy, I would do as much research as possible to save you any head aches. Check also with the seller, since I am sure they have fielded the same question before.
If you have an upholstery shop available to do the work, show him the pictures of what you are looking at. They have an experienced eye, and may be able to assist you with your questions.

Not sure if you want to include this question in this suburban specific thread, if not go ahead and make its own topic.

I finally found my set of utility buckets but was wondering what the difference might be between the panel version vs. the blazer version. Any differences in earlier ones from 60s era?

I know there is a difference between the backing plates where 64(?) and earlier had two vertical lines and 65 up had tic tac toe pattern.

Here are some pics of the ones I have and know they will not work in a 60s suburban due to difference in floor compared to a panel. They may work in the second row with a little work but have not tried it.

Any info appreciated.

I have a 1968 Suburban C10. I didn't come with a third row and it did come with a full sized second row.

My question is: Will the full width second row brackets work with a third row suburban seat or a blazer back seat to make it into a 2nd row short seat?

No, the 2nd and 3rd bench brackets are different.

I just picked up a 71 c10 suburban. What I believe is the 3rd row seat was not bolted down. First question is what size bolts are they supposed to be? Also are there some sort of hold downs for the front of the seat?

I hadn't noticed this tread before until 04ls1gto posted - thanks! I think this is the right spot for my question.

The factory seat cover for my 3rd row bench was removed and accidentally thrown away Cars Inc says they have the original materials for these seats and can make reproductions...including having the irons to make the scroll marks in the vinyl. (Joe Zidzik at Cars Inc is who I have been emailing with)

My question is - I have to mail the front and 2nd row seat covers to Cars Inc before they can make the reproduction covers. If Cars Inc makes 2 of the same covers from the one original pattern of my 2nd row seat I send them...will that extra cover fit the 3rd row? In other words - are the 3rd and 2nd row bench seats the same? My 2nd and 3rd row seats both measure about 50" wide...

I just got done measuring the brackets. It looks like the full width second seat brackets may fit a blazer seat and might be able to be used for the second seat.
The third seat uses different brackets, of course.

If I am wrong, please go ahead and correct me, as I have not done the install yet.
I bought a second row seat and it did not fit. It is the same width as a regular second seat. So, I as still looking for a second seat. I have a third seat installed, but just tried to install the narrow second seat and found out it is not a narrow seat.
