Bailing wire door handle repair, FTW
The back plate kept popping off and I didn't like how the new, Taiwansee handle looked on an old clunker.

I just did that today! I suggest putting the plate the other way too, so the spring does not rub on the shaft.

Re: Bailing wire door handle repair, FTW
Nice save. I fixed mine years ago with a stainless “C” shaped piece of sheet metal that worked just like your baling. Wire. Drilled the same holes, put the stainless “C” over the plate and aligned with the top and bottom hole and then put a pin made from a finish nail through top to bottom and bent bottom of nail over. Then did the same on the other side of the button rod. Been using that handle for over 25 years fixed that way.
