Original paint code for my 1970 c10

I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INPUT ON THE CORRECT PAINT FOR THIS VEHICLE. I AM RESTORING IT TO THE ORIGINAL COLOR. THANKS,

You don't see that combo much and I didn't recall it as being a Special Two-Tone offering.

What you have there on the Oshawa built pickup truck SPID describes a 525 Light Yellow (Ditzler #2324) truck with 504 Medium Olive (Ditzler #2097) on the roof and below the lower bodyside moldings (rockers).

The only advice I can offer is that clear coat paints tend to skew the colors and do not present an original appearance. If it were me I'd consider a single stage paint.

BTW: Being an Oshawa built, though a US market, you can order a the vehicle build history through GM Canada's agent. Its about $80.

Sorry to answer your question with a question but I'd like to comment or ask about on the SPID you show in your photo..

Mine is a '70 as well and my SPID looks and is even worded differently for the same options..

I have read there were repro SPID decals available but have never seen one.. either yours or mine might be one of those..

Mine is a Fremont Ca truck; so maybe that is why they differ; but here is a photo..

Your color scheme sounds cool though - obviously sounds like a two tone but a rare combination.

SPIDs used different formats, fonts, descriptions and layouts over the years and between plants. Even running changes within a year at a specific plant. Both of these look correct for their respective plants.

Wow, that was a quick response! I have been searching for a couple months for that info. Thanks a lot! It is the original SPID and the vehicle has only 80K miles on it. was sitting in a barn for 30yrs. I was considering a single stage paint for it.

Interesting - it looks to me though I am no expert - that your truck uses the 1971 terminology for the color "Medium Olive"?

Because in the 1970 paint colors - that color was called "Yellow Green Poly" - though with the same number (504 / 2097) assigned as later in 1971.

And then as you can see on the 1971 paint chips it is called "Medium Olive Poly" (504 /2097)

Vendor trade names on chip charts often not correspond with GM internal paint names and almost never match the years "sales" names.

Earlier tonight I did find in my collection another 573 truck SPID, Assembled in Janesville, note the very different appearance and layout.

This is quite common in these years. Example, the M 38 is the accurate factory description of the turbo hydramatic 350, but many trucks incorrectly list the M49, accurate factory description of the turbo hydramatic 400, when truck actually came with a turbo 350 from the factory ( mostly on '70-'72). Yours list M49, do you really have a factory turbo 400?

Attached are a few pictures. I have gone thru the engine and and trans and have started on the body work. Its not real bad but does have some areas that need attention. The tailgate was the worst. Had to use a donor. The engine was in pretty good condition. Oil valley was clean, no major gummed up areas. Checked the bottom end and all was good and within factory tolerances. Did put new lifters, push rods and had heads done. Rebuilt carb and painted everything. Fired the engine up and had 40+ oil pressure. Used original plugs, dist, points and coil. Will be replacing patch panels over the rear wheels next week.....will keep adding pics as I go. Oh and I have just started working with a MIG welder....keeping fingers crossed.

Here is a picture of a 70 573 coded truck (SPID clip above).
Plus a later K20 coded 573 IIRC. As far as I can tell, since the Special Two-Tone was discontinued on pickups, GM reused the same code as a fleetside restricted Conventional Two-Tone in 71 and 72. If smeone can document otherwise I'd really like to see it.

It never ceases to amaze me the combos people ordered these trucks in. I never would have thought of this combo but it's not the only one I've seen that I never would have thought of either. Not saying it's ugly at all.

I learn something on this forum every day.. and yes, you are correct; my SPID lists the M49 but the truck has the Turbo 350 (and it has the low hump transmission tunnel sheet metal so probably came that way from the Fremont plant). Thank you for the information; it makes sense now when I recall that Aaron from American Autowire was suspicious about that M49 on the SPID too; and luckily he correctly ID'd the Turbo 350 and got me the right harness back when I wouldn't have known the difference between a 400 and a 350.

Thanks again Tim. I have to say it will be hard to paint it this combination, but, it was how it came. Mine has the Woodgrain lower trim and the upper chrome trim as well. might look pretty good?

If it were mine I would totally go with your rare SPID color scheme.

I believe many good autobody paint shops these days (and for the last 20 years) will have an optical scanning device capable of matching any paint sample you can give them - they just need a sample spot about the size of a dime or penny and it should come out close enough that a good painter could fade it in on the same panel and make it hard to detect.

Even Home Depot's paint departments have these scanners/custom mixers (though those are for house paints); but it is the same concept.

It does get more complicated with metalflakes or candy apple paints but for pastels and solids like you have I think you might be pleasantly surprised how well your local shop can do if you give them an accurate sample. How about using the glovebox door for the base color scan ... and then maybe under the chrome trim - say on the lower cab below the gas cap to scan the Medium Olive Green?

Anyway, thanks for your input Gromit on keeping it original. Thankfully, SS Tim provided me with the correct paint codes which I will use a single stage paint to keep it looking correct.

Been reading this thread with interest, cuz I've never seen that combo and it SOUNDS ugly. But that's a nice looking truck IMO.
