Can this emblem be fixed ?

Rear barn door emblem is broken. It had a screw added back in the day which I am ok with , however the left end is broken. Has anyone ever bonded (panel adhesive) a thin backing ,perhaps stainless sheet to repair these? I dont beleive anyone is doing repros. I left the mounting holes in the doors rather than filling them (before paint) in anticipation that I can do something with this one.

Re: Can this emblem be fixed ?

I would most likely try to bond the whole emblem to the door. All the new cars have their emblems bonded. Either way cleaning the back is going to be the most important step. Most glues don't stick that well to chrome. You might have to grind the chrome away. You also might look on some old car forums for information. Cars like Packard, Desoto, and Studebaker and such have their fans and with lots of chrome bits to break they have the same issues, plus very little aftermarket support.

I had the same problem with my 68 burb and glued the g on the door and never had a problem with it falling off. I lived on a gravel road as well and drove it for a few years without problems before selling the burb.

Re: Can this emblem be fixed ?

There may be companies out there that can repair the pot metal emblems.
I seem to remember seeing shows about shops like this, and I'd even make calls to chrome shops that repair and re chrome parts. If they can't do it, then they may be able to tell you who can?

Those GMC Suburban emblems are hard to find, there are no repops and the originals are worth ten times their weight in gold.

Hopefully you can get this one repaired.
