Re: removing 59 hood Springs safely?
i have a dent puller hook that i use now
but a foot long loop of rope was what i used for years stand in front of truck, loop the spring end and pull back. it's that easy going back on sometimes takes 2 people one to pull the spring, another to guide into the hinge

Re: removing 59 hood Springs safely?
This is a photo of a photo on a Camaro board and you would have to use hooks rather than the eyes he used to just stretch the spring to paint it. Most of it besides a pair of hooks from the hardware store can come out of the scrap bin.
At least one of the threaded shafts needs to be long enough to stretch the spring as far as it needs to be stretched.

Pretty sure I just grabber mine with some vice grips and pulled. Here is a photo of how to stretch and space for reinstallation.
Also I just found out you can drag and drop photos onto the "manage attachments" "choose file" box.

Re: removing 59 hood Springs safely?
I have been doing it for years as I show in the link without so much as a grunt, not big deal.

Re: removing 59 hood Springs safely?
Is a '59 different than a '57?
I just put mine in with my hand. Easy too. |

Re: removing 59 hood Springs safely?
get a small exhaust pipe split it down the middle with cut off wheel to slide over spring and use two or three hose clamps to tighten it down over exhaust pipe to hold it in stretched position then lower hood and remove spring, hope you catch what I am trying to describe.

Re: removing 59 hood Springs safely?
yes. 55-7 springs are integral to the hinge, 58-9 spring mounts to the inner fender
