AD replacement metal

Was out for a cruise in my 50 last weekend and some jerk lost it in a curve and side swiped me. Drivers side front fender, door, cab, running board, bed side and rear fender. Think I will come out OK on insurance as it is a driver that I was planning to update and take apart for a repaint.

Plan has obviously changed and will likely need a donor for parts. Mine has a rebuilt motor, good chrome, and enough stuff to salvage so finding a cab and good front end seems to be a definite choice.

My question is what fits? At what point do the bigger trucks not have interchangeable cab/doors/fenders? I saw a Craigslist add for a 47 dump truck cab with doors and front fenders that look pretty darn good for a grand. not sure if the fenders are the same. Looks like a ton and a half or bigger

Stay with 3100, 3600, 3800 47-53. stay with 47-50 on the doors, some 51 doors have a turn down handle and some a push button. Both 51's have vent windows.

Fenders and hood start changing on 4100, 4400 up. 47 48 3600 3800 with a floor shift and a hand brake next to the shifter have a longer left inner fender than a pedal brake trucks. Stay with 49- 53 for inner fenders

Re: AD replacement metal

Thank you sir. So stick with the 3's and stay away from the 4's except for the cab.

Got it

Yes, If you do go with the 4 cab get the doors with it, There are some differences in the cabs but I don't think its anything that would cause a problem. Its mainly firewall holes. One other thing I forgot is that 47 48 had center hung cab mounts so your now limited to 49 and 50 on the cab if you use your doors 49 53 if you use the door on the cab you get

Re: AD replacement metal

The big trucks that are cab over, cab will not work. Cab is different.

Re: AD replacement metal

Can I adapt the mount system on an older cab? How big a deal to put a 47 cab on my 50 frame?

Re: AD replacement metal

I don't think you would have a problem using the side shackle mounts that are on your 50 now on a 47 or 48 Cab.

At a distance the different between 3000 series trucks and 4000 series trucks is the bumpers. 3000 series all have the smooth pickup style bumper while 4000 series have the big heavy duty ribbed bumper.

Quite often you can find 4000 series trucks that have nice cabs but just got shoved aside because the engine quit or the truck became obsolete on the farm and got parked out back.

Truck in a basket on the ALBUQUERQUE Craigslist. https://albuquerque.craigslist.org/pts/5414342363.html

Might be worth checking into as you may get enough good spare parts to sell to recover quite a bit of the investment. Not that far away either.

Can you post pix of the 50 before and after the side swipe?

Re: AD replacement metal

There is also a variation in side mount shackles. They mount to cab the same but my 49 frame has staggered holes. The shackles I got off eBay have straight holes.

Re: AD replacement metal

You can always just dump the shackles and use something like this.
