i forgot a step #@&$
installed a new intake manifold and once i put it all back together i realized that i forgot to put RTV silicone around the water passages intake manifold side. Is this a MUST DO step?

Re: i forgot a step #@&$
No. I put mine on with only a small dab of gray sealant where the side gaskets meet the end gaskets. And yes, I used the rubber end gaskets. I don't subscribe to using RTV in place of end gaskets. I used Victor manifold gaskets and have no leaks.

I know its alot of work, but if you didn't add coolant yet or fire it up, if it were me, I would tear it back off. nothing worse than running it and finding coolant in your oil.

Re: i forgot a step #@&$
You do however need to put sealant on certain intake bolts on a big block.

What type of gaskets did you use?

Re: i forgot a step #@&$
I have never used rtv on those ports, and I've probably assembled 10 big blocks in the lays few years, never had an issue.

Re: i forgot a step #@&$
No it will be fine. As long as you put a nice bead on the front and back of the intake(with a bit up on each tab). RTV silicone around those coolant ports is not necessary. Thats what gaskets are for. Even if I saw that in the directions I would not do it. Run it...

Re: i forgot a step #@&$
I always put the thin coat around the water port but remember too thick and it will just squeeze into the water port.
There are different types of silicone too, I use the the blue stuff for water/coolant, then Grey and Black stuff that is the best oil resistant, works great on the ends of the manifolds. Put a little dab of the grey or black under the bottom ends of the intake gasket at the end rails, then put a thin layer of blue around both sides of the water port of the gasket and put it in place, then lay your 1/4" bead across the ends.

Re: i forgot a step #@&$
Yeah, you might be able to get by without the RTV. But there is a reason they have that step in the instructions. It greatly reduces the odds of a leak. You have no water in the system yet, so pull the manifold, get new gaskets and add the RTV. That is, unless you are feeling lucky

i don't know about you, but knowing that this little amount of time could save you more time and money down the road really would make me want to tear it back down and fix the problem
