An horrible end to a perfect vacation

Hi all,

I'm typing this at 0216 UK time, a combination of jetlag and being totally p*ssed off preventing me sleeping. My wife and I arrived home from the most wonderfull vacation in the US this evening (more stories to come!) (oh and Wes if you're out there everything arrived just great, thanks) And thanks to all who suggested stuff, we did indeed "Stand on the corner in Winslow, Arizona!"

Arrived home at just after 7pm after god knows how many hours on planes etc to find that some (to borrow a phrase popular with current American TV censors) "Maggot Farmer" had burgled our house between my brother-in-law checking it on Sunday and today (wednesday evening) They climbed a six foot fence to get into the back yard but fortunately didn't touch my truck..! They then got around all our security by simply chucking a rock through the glass of the upstairs bathroom window, pulling the fragments out and climbing up onto our utility room roof below it. The alarm system did it's job partially though as they must have been in and out in minutes. They emptied a couple of drawers out onto the bed in our bedroom, pinched my wifes old work laptop (sorry IBM) and our nearly new very expensive Dyson vacuum cleaner! I'm sure they'll be some other stuff missing once we've looked around properly tomorrow

We're lucky as it could have been much worse, they didn't get downstairs at all so TV video, HiFi,my PC and any jewellery well locked up still all here and we are insured. What upset both of us most was the fact that they rifled through the box where we keep all the things from our daughter that we lost two years ago, scumbag waste of oxygen junky mu**a f**kers, I know what I'd do to them if I caught them, it involves a very splintery piece of wood, a hammer and no vaseline if you get my drift

Window now boarded up, cops been round, fingerprint guys coming in the AM and new glass as well. Let's see what tomorow brings.

Speak to you all later

Sorry to hear about your daughter I hate thieves, what gives them the right to come into our homes and take what we worked so hard in our lives to buy. glad they didn't take your daughter's things. You can always buy another computer, but not replace the memories in that box.

Hope you hear good news from the cops

I'm glad everything that's really important to you still seems to be in place.

Hope they catch them and return your stuff.

Bummer about the break-in, but glad to hear the trip went well and you made it home safely. When things settle down, you'll have to share your thoughts on your travels, and what you think about the ol' USA.

Nothing special other than the Eagles said it in a song. A few years ago, Winslow make a "Standin' on the corner" park. It's kinda cheesy. Has a bronze statue of a guy w/ a guitar looking out into the street, and then on the building behind him, there is a murial painted where it looks like store windows and a reflection of a girl in a flatbed ford.

I found a pic:

I was really worried that something bad had happened to you here in the states. I guess it's not any better when it happens in your own home. In fact, it's worse! Sorry to hear about your box of memories.
