Ohioans please email your state rep
Subject: RE: Ohio vehicle registration -- lost or no title
Priority: Normal Date: Monday, April 4, 2016 2:50 PM Size: 4 KB Dear Mr. Brooks, Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding Ohio vehicle registration, as well as the information you provided about Texas and Arkansas vehicle registration. I appreciate feedback from engaged constituents, and value your input. I would be happy to circulate your thoughts to my colleagues at the Ohio House. I also plan to reach out to our contact in the Department of Public Safety, and will keep you updated with any pending or new legislation regarding changes to Ohio vehicle registration. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions, or concerns. Sincerely, Doug Green State Representative 66th House District -------------------------------------- Subject : Ohio vehicle registration -- lost or no title Message : Please change Ohio DMV to allow/issue Bonded titles for restorers and collectors of antique and desirable vehicles, trucks, cars, motorcycles that have lost or no titles. Ohio is nearly the only state that has no bonded titles or registration for this situation. New law could follow the same rules as Texas or Arkansas for Bonded Titles. DMV or its reps would still research the vin numbers for possible theft before allowing. thanks Dennis L Brooks

Well if you guys want to jump the same hoops we have to to get one, I say more power to you. I was hoping there was an easier way to get one other than the bonded route but apparently not. I have done it a couple times before and it is no fun at all.

Re: Ohioans please email your state rep
Up until a few years ago we could register with just a bill of sale , Not anymore . The problem I'm having now is the parts trucks I bought cheap a while back are looking better than some of the eBay and craigslist offerings at three times the money ? Trucks I had planned on parting out are now looking like great rebuilders ? Prices continue to climb and I'm wondering every time I go to pull a part if I should look to the parts board before I hit up my own stash ?

Re: Ohioans please email your state rep
Our path now is either a builders title which does not represent the actual year or other paths around the system. A bonded title at least gives us a hoop for model year title. If you know a Ohioan judge you might get a court order State Highway patrol inspection but also takes a lot of time.

Re: Ohioans please email your state rep
SC is the same, no bonded titles, and if you purchased the vehicle out of state, your really SOL. If it was titled sometime in the past "in state" you might have a chance, but out of state, don't bother bringing it into SC unless you want to pay one of those title places a grand or two to "get one" for you.
I had to go back to NY, have my dad find the owner he bought the 67 firebird from in the early 80's (they still lived in the same house!), bring their info to the NY DMV and get a new registration - it actually wasn't that bad, but I would have never gotten an SC title without it. He did the same thing as above, originally bought it as a parts car, realized it was too nice, then "restored it" and drove it for a few years. He borrowed another firebird title he had to register it (never changed VINs or anything), hey, it was the 80's. I wanted to do it right and keep the cars original history, so I wanted the correct title. It's been a long time since I looked, but I believe it's an early production run car.

I love Alabama. NO titles issued or needed on any vehicle 35 model years old or older.

Re: Ohioans please email your state rep
No bonded titles in MA either.
You stated that Ohio is "nearly the only state that has no bonded titles"? Very interesting I thought the majority of states didn't allow that?

Re: Ohioans please email your state rep
In Rhode Island vehicles before 2001 don't require titles anymore. Over 2001 you need a tittle for 20 years. So in 2021 my 01 won't need a tittle anymore. Not sure it will make it though. Anything older just needs an old registration certificate from a previous owner to show someone paid the taxes on it and of course a bill of sale. I've actually bought cars cheap from people in Massachusetts and Connecticut because the title paper work was messed up and it was to hard to fix in those states.
