'64 4X4 Frame Interchangeability

Got a quick question for you guys. Due to certain circumstances I have to find another entire frame and drive train for my '64 GMC 4X4 resto (3/4 ton 8 lug). Would one from a 67-72 be the same? Will the cab, bed and other components bolt to it correctly? I would assume I'd have to make motor mounts for the V6.....

I would much rather find another period correct one (Chevy or GMC) but they are mighty scarce here in New England.... Would even consider a road trip if anyone has any leads....

Any help would be appreciated...

It's a long story, I was keeping some truck parts at a friend of my fathers and he turned on us for some reason, now we can't get the stuff out of his yard...... live and learn.

I run though that every once and a while. Been searching all up and down the east coast and as far out as Kansas. Somethings bound to turn up...

Re: '64 4X4 Frame Interchangeability

Boy that sucks big time.. My Truck body is actually siiting on an early 70's 4x4 frame, I bought the truck like that. From what I can tell the front cab mounts lined up correctly and the rear ones were off but someone just drilled new holes for the rear ones... as for the bed I'm thinking it bolted on but the very rear looks like the frame needed to be maybe a couple inches longer, I'm not really sure about the bed as there is steel plating covering up the wood flooring what's left of it.....here's my build thread if you want to check it out...

Yep as Ron stated, the frame horns are different and the rad mounts are too..
But all can be made to work with some ingenuity, I see on your cab work and all the tractors you've fixed up that this would be easy for you. Still sucks on your original frame... Maybe there's a chance you can get it back...

It really does. Definitely put a big damper on the project. Worst part is we can't figure out why, he never told my dad what the deal is, just rounded up my parts (had a complete fleetside bed at another place in town that he helped me find previously) put them in his yard and cut ties. So we're just going to start fresh. If in time I get it back I'll have an extra frame and parts, and if not, at least I'll be able to build my truck.

I've got a couple leads on period correct frames so we'll see if any pan out, here's hoping!

Unfortunately the GMC frames don't have VIN's on them. Do you have any other way of proving the parts are yours? If he won't talk to you maybe he will talk to the Police? I wouldn't let him pull this BS.

Re: '64 4X4 Frame Interchangeability

Keep your eye on craigslist. There is a 65 4x4 frame on there right now but its 6 lug and the guy is asking too much in my opinion. I know over the past 6 months there are 2 other 4x4 8lug frames that keep popping up from time to time in the new england area. Also, Depending on what you plan to do with your truck (restore or customize) these cabs fit nicely on 3rd gen dodge ram 2500/3500 frames.

We've tried calling him, no answer, left a nasty message on dads phone.

I have a ton of pictures of the truck as it was coming apart, frame pictures and whatnot. Ya know I thought about it but we live in a small town, everyone knows everyone and that would really stir things up. My father says he's done this before with other people that PO'ed him. You'd really have to know the guy as much as I hate to say it.... just a bad/weird situation overall. With any luck it will blow over...

Aaaaand I got my parts back! For those of you who might have been wondering. He finally came around and everything is tucked away neatly at his place. Just needed some time to straighten some things out in his life. The '64 build continues!!
