convert c30 dump to 4wd ???

Have the opportunity to possibly purchase a 77 K30 dually fairly cheap and was wondering how much of a hassle, or all whats involved to convert my 68 c30 over to a 1-ton 4wd. The '77 is SM465, same as mine, has NP205, AND has had the differentials have been changed out to 3.73 (which I like). Just not sure what it would all take. If i remember right the front spring perch lengths are different... other than that though I don't have that experience. Thanks in advance... OH and I have access to a 70 K20 chassis for some parts.

If anyone has the right parts on hand, sounds like you do! I don't know the answer, but I'm in just to find out what fits.

There are a number of C30 4x4 conversion threads, just use the search function.

Re: convert c30 dump to 4wd ???

I've converted 3 trucks over to 4 wheel drive. The frames are a little different shaped but you can make all the 77 hangers and cross member fit. Where the rear hangers go your going to need to flatten a bulge out in the frame. The rear of the trucks going to need to be raised either with the 4 wheel drive hangers or lift blocks. Your also going to need to shorten the rear driveshaft. The last time I did one was probably ten years ago so I'm sure I'm forgetting some details but I'm still driving the truck.(69 C30) If you leave the 2 wheel drive stearing box on it you can convert it crossover stearing. I left the front clip on and just supported the engine with an engine crane on all of them I did. There's a lot of holes to drill but you can do the front swap in a weekend and still drive it as 2 wheel drive then put the transmition and transfer case in later.. You'll have to cut a hole for the shifter and get a longer speedometer cable also. The fastest way is to cut the frame and weld on on a 4x4 front frame but I don't think its going to work with the 3 different frames you have
