Can we see pics of your windshield washer mod?
From what I've read on here tonight, a lot of guys have figured out that the original washer pump sucks. I know mine hasn't worked since 1991 and dad never remembers it working!
Can you guys post pics of what you are using and what make and model vehicle it came out of? Dad and I might hit the junkyard next week after the rain lets up. |

Re: Can we see pics of your windshield washer mod?
Make sure it's a positive displacement pump and not a rotary pump - most rotary pumps can't even lift fluid out of the jar and MUST be below the jar, so they don't work. Anything designed to pull fluid should be fine, I just had a lot of trouble finding such a thing!

Post #111 pic 3 http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversion...-c-10-a-6.html This is out of a late 80's Chevy van, and they have a real similar washer bottle, but I used my factory one and just added a bracket for the pump.

Re: Can we see pics of your windshield washer mod?
Sorry I don't remeber what model it came out of but it was a little Chevy sedan maybe a malibu. It has the pump mounted on the side and I wired it to work off the orignal switch. Hot is always on and the switch grounds it. I also redid the spray nozzles to come out at the wiper arms and mount on the wiper to get a full swipe with water instead of just a straight stream in the middle it covers the whole area with water.

My setup is very similar to Andy's. Mine came out of an S-10 and works great.

I'm going to copy your moves (highest form of praise? ) and go to a junkyard as soon as this constant rain lets up. If necessary, I can buy a new pump and make a bracket to mount it on the side of my bracket like you have. Thanks a ton for that pic. |

Re: Can we see pics of your windshield washer mod?
If someone could figure out the original van application so that we could RockAuto it or grab it on Amazon, that'd be great. But "80s van" is still a little too broad!

Re: Can we see pics of your windshield washer mod?
The more I look at that Is1nova71, where is the hose that goes from the pump to the squirters?
Here is what I think you have. Is this the pump? http://www.carpartkings.com/media/ca...n61-15_fro.jpg If so, does the nozzle to the squirters come out of the bottom of the pump? |

I really like Andy's set up. I was actually looking to try to get the nozzles on the arms too. In to see what he used.

Re: Can we see pics of your windshield washer mod?
To get the plastic to hold on to the arm boil some water in a pot and have some vise grips ready to clamp them in place. Get the water boiling good and drop them in for a minute are so then pull them out and put on the arm upside down and clamp them in place to cool off. Once they cool off you just unclamp them. They will confrom to the arm and can pop on and off easy.
This is how I did mine anyway. I did mine on top of a kerosene heater in the garage so I wouldn't have so far to go with them when I pulled them out of the water. You don't want them to get so soft you melt them just enough to make the clip part flex enough to squeeze it.

Andy, do you know what year range and vehicle the nozzles cam off of? Thanks.

Re: Can we see pics of your windshield washer mod?
I used a $20 generic pump from the auto parts store and mounted it in the original location. Works pretty good.

Re: Can we see pics of your windshield washer mod?
I really want to figure out a way to use the original tank on my Panel build, because I have the only black one I've ever seen:
But for my pick up, 'Ol Green, I used one out of a 10 year old Kia.

I think I can make my own bracket if I have to just buy the pump. Andy, thanks.....when dad and I get to the junkyard to look for pumps I'll have a look also for clips such as these on your wipers. Pritch: same here on using the original bottle. Wow, how do you see the fluid level on that black bottle? Last edited by In The Ten Ring; 05-05-2016 at 10:03 PM. |

Re: Can we see pics of your windshield washer mod?
Not stock looking but I used one out of a '96 s10 blazer I parted out. I kinda contours the wheel well on the passenger side. It also base two pumps (one for back glass on blazer) so if it goes out I can just swap them!

That pump was used on a few GM products, nice upgrade.

Re: Can we see pics of your windshield washer mod?
I used a generic pump from NAPA and mounted it next to the tank on the fender. I had to re-route some of the water lines but it uses the original tank and plugged into the washer/wiper switch. It pumps way better than stock and my feet don't get wet from it leaking any more.
