Should I? 04 Yukon 5.3L into '66

I love driving my 1966 C10 and want to make it a daily driver. I have a 2004 Yukon with a 5.3L LS engine that just sits in my driveway collecting dust. I have owned it since 20k miles and don't really want to to deal with having to sell it.

I got approval from my wife to pull the engine, transmission, and front seats (3 person w/ folding consol). I have started researching what all it would take, and this site has been extremely useful.

My 66 currently has a rebuilt 307 with a SM465 and runs good. It's a little rough driving it in Houston traffic though.

Am I crazy for trying to tackle this?

What all can I reuse from the Yukon?

Its an awesome swap ,even better because you know the history of the donor.I did a 65 c10 swb a couple of years ago with a 5.3 turbo 400 a gear vendors over drive turned out really nice. Im confident that there is lots of input from other members out there . Go for it!

I would do it.

There is a LSx swap subsection to the 'Engine and Drivetrain' section of this forum. There is everything you need to know in there.

What they said! Plus use as much of the Tahoe as possible..I have not done it but would like to know the best way to blend the 2 together. Hope you have something else to drive for a while.

If I can do it, anyone can. Just keep track of the wiring. I double labeled each wire in case I got lost, which I didn't. The fact that you have the entire running vehicle in the driveway is a huge advantage. I didn't and spent a good bit of time looking for the correct gas pedal (drive by wire), throttle body and TAC (cruise control module). Good luck..dug

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

This will be the first time I tackle something like this, so I have been a little hesitant. Although I think this would be an awesome project for my 15 yo son and I. My daughter may get a little frustrated as I would have to drive her car while the truck and Yukon are both out of commission.

I did it. Im very happy with mine!

But think of putting a 5 speed in and take the 4 speed out. I think that would make a big difference and be a little kinder to the wallet.

Re: Should I? 04 Yukon 5.3L into '66

I'd do it. I have an '05 5.3 engine on a stand in my workshop right now. I'm in the process of getting parts together to do a swap. My brother just acquired a wrecked but drivable '04 Silverado w/ 5.3 w/64k miles on it and we'll be doing the same swap into his '70 shortbed Cheyenne later this month..

I have an '05 5.3 engine/4l60e in my 66' I love it. I put almost 300 miles on my truck today almost all highway driving and got 20.5mpg. I'm sure it would have been a little better if I would slow down a little bit.
