Weirdest thing
I got my 79 stepside on the road tonight after my 8 year build. And the Trans is acting strange. I have it hooked up to the base plate vacuum. When I first fire it up and drive it. It will not shift until I drive it at least 4 blocks or so. Even after I drive it and it shifts good for a while. If I shut it off and then fire back up and drive. Same thing. At least 4 blocks. You would think maybe it was due to warming the Trans up. Put about 20 miles on her tonight. Picked up a new control module. See if that does anything. I pulled a vacuum and it held. So not sure

Re: Weirdest thing
Is the trans rebuilt? If so, when? If it's been sitting for a while, might be seals shrunk and/or hardened. I assume you checked the fluid level?

Re: Weirdest thing
I had sat for a while. I am a little over full on fluid. Should I suck some out? And it is leaking pretty bad. I am planning a visit to the guy that built it for me and see what he says

Re: Weirdest thing
A couple spots. Looks like around the pan. But the worst spot is at the shifter linckage I have tightened the pan
History. Bought it around 96. Drove till 2004. Sat until 2013 or so. Then sent it back to builder and he freshened it up. Than sat until now. With firing it up from time to time and a trip around the block about 5-6 times. Here we are now.

Re: Weirdest thing
I replaced the control module. It is better but still has a hard time shifting when I first start off. But now will start to shift after about 1 block instead of four. Like I said it is a little over full. Should I suck some out?

Re: Weirdest thing
Seems like it needs to fill the torque converter before it will shift. Does this sound right? What about the governor? Had a friend of mine tell me to pop that open and have a look.

Re: Weirdest thing
Take it back to the builder he is the best bet at getting it diagnosed properly. We can only guess what is wrong without actually see it running.
