60-61 hood springs

Anybody re-pop a good hood spring? my stock ones on my 61 wouldn't hold up my hood and the new ones won't either. bought them probably 3yrs ago.

Re: 60-61 hood springs

Did you put a blanket on the hood?
I had to cut one coil off and heat and re-bend a hook when I did that.

Re: 60-61 hood springs

Got some new hood springs from brothers, and they are much stronger than my stock ones, and the other after-market ones. I just have the j hook you can by for installing the springs. Gonna need another set of arms, as the new springs are that much stiffer.

Re: 60-61 hood springs

For anybody that's interested, the new springs from Brothers hold my hood up all the way. For how long your guess is as good as mine.

Is there a place on the J hook where you could hook a ratchet strap to, and the other end of the strap to a solid object?

Re: 60-61 hood springs

Capt--the problem was i didn't have the hood all the way up. put a strap on the hood to a rafter and pulled it as far as it would go. Springs went right on. Was just that 1/2" made the difference. they are stronger for sure as i could remove the old and put them back on but not the new ones.
