Fuel Gauge Issue

I have a 1972 Chevy C10. I have an issue with my fuel gauge that i just can not seem to understand. My gauge shows pin well below the E. When i start the truck it jumps up a little so i know there is power to it. I took it apart on my own and forced the pin back above the E, but by the time i connected the cluster back up, the pin dropped well below the E again. Do you have any idea what this may be? I appreciate any assistance with this.

What happens when you pull the fuel sender wire out of the fuse panel and turn the key on. The gauge should go to the 2 or 3:00 o'clock position. The sender wire is on the end of the panel either the left or right end in the center.

The gauge sender terminal may also be grounded which would cause the gauge to read empty.

Re: Fuel Gauge Issue

It shows well below E. I am going to try and disconnect the fuel sender wire and crank it when i go to lunch in a few hours and see what it does. I also will take a picture and post it here soon to show you what it looks like. I have never seen a gauge go below E this much. Thanks for your Reply VetteVet.
