stupid squirrels

I seem to need some advise on how to keep squirrels from eating the wiring on my truck in the carport. anyone had this issue... trucks not done yet but will be soon ..already had wires chewed on camaro HELP !

Around my house they die of lead poisoning !!!! "LOL"

Moth balls might keep them away !

I've never heard of squirrels chewing wiring. I HAVE heard of mice chewing the wiring.

How do you know it's squirrels?

I haven't heard of squirrels doing that either maybe some traps around on the ground with nuts on them if you don't want to hurt them I wonder if there is a spray you could lay down on the car port area

Yep it's squirrel.Left me an acorn or two All rodents have to chew because their teeth never stop growing.And thanks to the guy who developed wire insulation with soy in it they really like wire. that honda tape was made just for that.May try to lead-poison them . squirrels wont eat poison ,too smart or just
smarter than mouse.

You might try this. I know it works really good for deer & rabbits. I sprayed some in the engine compartment and around the tires on the SuperBee last winter and the mice didn't bother it.

I use fabric softner sheets in my pop-up camper (outdoors) and in my Transam which sit more than half of the year indoors. Its been years and I have not seen one bit of evidence for any type of rodent/vermin. My camper is old and ain't exactly air tight either. Added bonus - camper and car smell great when it's time to use em again.

I'll second the fabric sheets. I had mine in the carport and they would deposit berries and twigs all over my intake manifold and the space between it an the heads. It left some stains I was never able to remove on the aluminum covers. That seemed to work for me

its the salt the highway department puts down. it gets splashed all over and lter the lil guys eat your harness to get the salt in thier diet. much worse when wiring was insulated with cloth.

pressure wash or rinse off the underside of your truck

maybe spray some engine degreaser on there

They make a trap that looks just like a bigger version of a mouse trap. It's made by the Victor company. It will take out a squirrel. If you're a little squeamish with that, you could always get a live (box) trap, and then deliver the little rodents somewhere else in town, but that gets to be a little tedious, and who knows if they can find their way home. LOL

Either way, if you can find a way to get rid of half-dozen squirrels, more may move in, but it will take awhile.

The headlight wires on my '70 are all chewed apart by mice. The previous owner used drier sheets inside the cab to "keep the mice out". Um... Yeah, so much for that thought...there were mouse holes chewed in every sheet, and droppings everywhere.

Old southern solution is moth balls. I drove squirrels out of my attic with moth balls. Of course you do have that horrible moth ball smell to deal with.

Surely one of the suggestions here can deter them from chewing on your truck.

Prevention is far easier than shooting and much more humane....save the shooting for fall when there aren't babies that will be left to starve.


I know squirrels are allergic to dryer sheets....when I raised two orphaned Douglas Reds the lady giving me advice on the process warned me not to use dryer sheets when I washed old tee shirts to put into their cage.

Use over the counter diet pills,triple the dose,mix with a tablespoon of peanut butter on a paper plate.
This was my wife's idea, on the day before we left on a 5 day vacation, I was losing my marbles knowing a squirrel is trapped in my garage with my precious trucks. I tried to get rid of the squirrel but this was the only thing that worked. I thought she was crazy, the squirrel made it a foot from the plate, in my mind it was very humane

Try decon... a squirrel really isn't any different than a mouse or rat... they are a rodent... Decon is you friend...

You don't want squirrels anywhere around your house. Poison/dogs/cats/traps all work. It's plenty humane to kill them. I use Hav-A-Heart traps with bird seed. I was taking them off and dropping them miles away when I was told a thing or two about squirrels. They spens spring through fall storing for winter. You move them away and chances are they'll starve next winter. Squirrels are very territorial, so dropping one on another's turf can be a bad scene. They are known to track back over 20 miles to their home. You might as well kill them. I dunk them in a deep spot in the creek.

I had a cat, got old, and died. I never had rabbits, squirrels, or chipmunks around the house. Now I am battling all three. I need another cat
