will these fit my 72?

I'm looking to replace my 16.5 8 lugs from my 72 Chevy 3/4 ton 4wd with 16" rims.
These are on CL about 80 miles away. I asked the seller what they came off of and his reply was he owns a 2004 GMC, not sure what the Chevy emblems are doing there, but first things first.
My 72 actually as 78 frt and rear diffs., is there a chance these will fit before I drive over and check them with my pattern.

they will not fit, you need wheels from 1997 or older....in '98 they changed lug patterns to a metric measurement, your old wheels are 8 lug on 6.5 inch spacing, be patient and keep looking, I found a nice set of aftermarket aluminum 16" wheels one day at a yard sale for $125.00 for the set

That is wrong. Only Ford changed to metric pattern in 98.

To the original poster, those are called PYO wheels. They are the common old 8 lug bolt pattern. I personally have a set of 2004 Duramax wheels on my 90 model truck. No funny business required. They bolt on. To give you confidence that I know what I am talking about, here are some pictures off of this very board. Google "PYO wheels" for all the reading you ever want.

They do however sit a bit inward if I remember right. The offset is a little different but YES they do just bolt right up. You can get the right lugnuts on ebay for about 30 bucks to run the caps as I don't think the originals have the right thread count. I had a set on my 4x4 that runs a 73 14 bolt rear and 93 dana 60 front. I paid $400 with new all terrain Goodyears on them but sold the wheels and went back to the older 10 holes as they filled up the wheel wells a bit more as they are wider. I kept the new tires and put them on the older rims.

I have been looking at steel rims (16") on CL and the prices are all over the place or just hard to find. These are $500/bo with poor tires so I'm still undecided if I should make an offer.

My truck has a 4 inch lift and a low gear ratio, so I would like to get a higher tire, any thoughts on what 16" tire size to go with.

To me personally I feel 500 is a bit high seeing they need tires, but I guess that depends also on how much you like this style wheel and what your willing to pay. Eventually these won't be worth a whole lot at all I feel.

I just bought a set of junkyard 16x7" Ford wheels and had them sandblasted and powdercoated. Went with Cooper S/T 255/85-16s for that old-school look. They are a hair larger than the original 7.50-16s, just over 33" tall.
BTW, my K20 has 4.10 gears and 2.5" front springs.

X2 on the 16x7 Ford wheels. Junkyards here run "Monday madness" wheel sales, steel wheels are $10 each and they are common.

Up to 1997, F250 Fords used 8x6.5 bolt pattern, same as ours. Also sometimes listed as 8x106.1mm.

In 1998 Ford switched to something metric, I think 8x170mm, and those will not fit.

Actually, to widen your search a bit, Ford E250 & E350 vans stuck with 8x6.5 for a few more years. Not sure when they went metric.

Sorry for the wrong info, I knew Ford changed to Metric lug spacing in '98, I was told that Chevy and Dodge had also, I just learned something

You know, honestly it's not even that simple. I didn't go into details, but my saying Ford went to a metric bolt pattern in 98 isn't entirely true. Some carried over several years later before making the change. I know for a fact that 3/4 and 1 ton vans remained imperial until the early 2000s or thereabouts.

I like those factory Alcoa wheels that the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and vans used. I pulled a set off of an early 2000s van for a Dodge truck I had.
