New tach for the truck

When I swapped in the 5.3L, I wanted a nice tachometer, so I found an early Sun 7k tach. I had it reworked with new electronics, specifying that it needed to read a 4 cyl. engine signal from the PCM. After spending lots of money to refurbish the gauge, I installed it

and guess what! It was rebuilt to read an 8 cyl. signal. Great! Now what! So, not wanting to spend major bucks again, I contacted Speedhut and had them build me a new tach. Less money, and programmable too!

Being as their gauges are "in dash" pieces, I fitted the tach. with an older Sun tach pinch cup. It's only a 6k tach. but I'll never spin the engine above that and it's easier to read because of the wider "spread" of the numbers. A nice piece. Responsive too

Re: New tach for the truck

You can have the tach output signal re-programmed to an 8 cylinder signal. I did this on my 86 and the factory tach reads correctly.

Yeah, I know, but with the expense of reflash and shipping both ways, it was really a "wash", cost-wise. Besides, having the truck "down", without a brain, just wasn't appealing. This thing is too much fun to drive
