1966 C10 Transmission Choices
I am installing 67' BBC motor. Would like some opinions and options.
I have the shorter tunnel on the floor. I do not want to cut or remove whats existing. Thanks |

TH400 is a good choice for an auto.

Re: 1966 C10 Transmission Choices
I would assume so.....Automatics came with the shorter height tunnel and the manuals had the taller tunnel....unless I'm missing something here....

Re: 1966 C10 Transmission Choices
the powerglide( both cast iron and aluminium were 2 speed a/trans). the only trans to require the h/hump were the SM420 trans and the hydramatic used in the earlier GMCs.
if you are going to use it for an every day driver then I would go to something a little newer with an o/d to it. to install a 700r4 there is a lip at the bottom of the firewall that you have to massage a little for clearance. you will also have to remove the c/memeber that goes under the bellhousing and install a crossmember for a rear trans mount ron |

Re: 1966 C10 Transmission Choices
I installed a 700R4 in mine. I had no clearance issues. I moved the engine forward about 1.5 inches to accommodate a drive shaft I had already modified for a later model 3 speed. The engine move also gave me better clearance for the HEI distributor. I used a standard 65 truck, automatic cross member and retained the E brake set up on my rear drum brakes. All in all I am very pleased with the 700r4 and mated to a crate SBC. I am getting 16-18 MPG (I have trouble keeping my foot out of it or it might be better) on the highway. With 3.73 rear the engine is running 1800-1900RPM. I bought the 700R4 from Bowtie Overdrives for about 2K all in.
