Suggestion for Trans Fluid for '70 350 C20 Automatic Trans

Hi everyone. I need to add about a pint or so of transmission fluid to my factory '70 C-20 350 V-8 automatic trans. Does anyone have any suggestions based on what works best for them? The manual says to use 'DEXRON', but I noticed there are different types of it. I was looking in the local Autozone and they have multiple options. http://www.autozone.com/motor-oil-an...smission-fluidMy vehicle is original and has about 160,000 miles. I really appreciate everyone's feedback.

Dexron 3 is what i use in my th350, i used the aap brand( basically vavlaline) but any brand besides the stuff you would get at a gas station would be fine.

I also use Dexron III. Last time I was at my local Napa store, I saw some other grade of Dexron but I don't recall what may have made it different.

needs to be at least a dex/merc variant - specific to GM auto trans. Note that some others are Ford/T5 only. If you check the owner's manual, it will give the the ATF equivalency specs, however the ratings have long ago been superseded. You can check to see what today's equivalent is for the original manufacturer's recommendation, but, bottom line - you just need a dex/merc type for a standard TH350/TH400.

Thanks Stocker & Jocko for your input. They didn't have a Dextron III, so I got Dextron VI for GMs which says it satisfies the requirements of III.

Thumbs up Re: Suggestion for Trans Fluid for '70 350 C20 Automatic Trans

I think you just jogged my memory.... that Dexron VI is a synthetic blend and a bit more expensive than the Dexron III that I bought. Possibly better, esp. for extreme applications.

I always used Type F in my Chevy slushboxes. Slightly less slippery than Dexron.
