Stepside Narrow Rearend Backspacing
Just received this kit from CPP( https://www.summitracing.com/parts/CLP-6370SWBK-6D ) and now looking to get some new wheels. I really like the look of 17's and looking to purchase 17x8 Vision 141 Legend 6x5.5 with 4.5bs. I can get this setup shipped to Alaska, were I live, for free which is very nice.
I'm worried though, with 17x8 on all four corners that it won't look that good and may be to wide for the front? Also, I'm worried the rear fitment may cause rubbing on my inner bed. I plan to have these machined to fit my hub properly by the way. Any advice you guys can give would be very very appreciated along with the proper size tire I should run. My truck is a 1968 C10 with the original 1968 rear end(narrow). I don't plan on changing to the wider rear end. Also, I would like to avoid running spacers if possible. Thanks! |

Re: Stepside Narrow Rearend Backspacing
The 17x8 4.5" backspace wheel fits perfect on the front of my '69 with ECE disc conversion. I have 235 55 17 tire.
How big a tire do you want in the back? That is more than a little important to the math. I did switch to a the wider 71-72 5 lug rear for my combo. I'm running a 275 55 17 on the back with a 17x9 wheel with 5" backspace. A 17x9 with 4.5" backspace would work well with the narrow earlier rear it just may or may not be available with your wheel.

Re: Stepside Narrow Rearend Backspacing
My truck is 4.5"/7" drop. On an 8" rim, 3.5" would be better backspace in the rear, but I think you can run that combo you posted with the 255 rear tire. The 275's look awesome on my truck FWIW... But it mandated the wider rear for the 5" backspacce 9" rim.

Re: Stepside Narrow Rearend Backspacing
Do you guys know if a 16" wheel requires lower control arm trimming like a 15" wheel?
