Underdash AC relay.
I purchased a truck that has under dash AC and I'm trying to get it to work, but I first have to fix the wiring.
1) doesn't have a fuse before or after the no. 30 terminal. 2) no. 85/86. One has ground the other is not connected. I don't know where this is supposed to come from and how to connect it. If I provide direct power to the 85/86 that isn't grounded, the relay clicks and I get the under dash fan and ac compressor to switch on, but I'm certain that's not how the relay should be connected. Also, since there are two no 30 terminal, can I use one for AC and the other for electric fan or should I run another relay for the fan? Second also, which electric pusher fan do you recommend? |

Re: Underdash AC relay.
This is a typical relay schematic.
You sure it #30 you have 2 of and not #87? I would run separate relay for your fans.

Re: Underdash AC relay.
The second terminal probably is coming off 87 not 30.
I'm going to have to check the wiring again. I could not find power going to the under dash AC other than the one off this relay. Thanks for the help. |

Re: Underdash AC relay.
The power wire should come from the relay only.

But there is power to the AC or fan, and another power from the switch to turn the relay from open to closed.

Re: Underdash AC relay.
Yes #30 is suppose to be a fused 12 volts hot then goes through relay and out #87 to the AC. This should be the main hot wire for the AC unit.
#86 should be 12 volts that comes through the AC switch which comes on through relay to energize the #87 which turns the AC unit on.
