odd sized rear window
I need some info on rear window PLEASE. So I took out the rear window on my 69 c10 short bed fleetside to replace window seal. Went to put new seal in and its was way bigger than the window so I thought by chance at factory wrong seal got put in package. Went to classic Chevy parts store and they pulled new one out of package and checked numbers and all matched up. So I had old one with me and showed it to them and we measured it and everything. Come to find out there is a odd sized window in it. 56 x 14 glass. Does anyone know anything about this? They made about 5 calls and said non of manufactures heard of that. Don't see that has been chopped. That was one of their first questions. Any light you can shine on this would be great. Checked VIN number identification on here and couldn't see anything out of ordinary. Just don't know. Thanks for your time.

Can you post a picture of the cab from the rear?

Re: odd sized rear window
gr-68 went to classic muscle they said it was not the right size. we looked at 3 different seals. My measurements are outside corners. I just don't know anymore.

Re: odd sized rear window
have same size opening as gr8-68. Just checked it. Really confused. Old seal was no where close to size of seal. Tried to put on glass was not even close.

Re: odd sized rear window
If you have same size opening are you sure they sold you the correct seal? Did you get that from classic muscle ?

Re: odd sized rear window
I did. Took old one with me and we compared them. They got two other ones from the back while I was there. Still have the one I bought originally they wouldn't take it back because its the seal it calls for and I bought it over a year ago. I understand where they are coming from on that. I just don't understand it. But the original seal is way smaller. They even were puzzled. Will try to put pick on here tomorrow of them together.

Re: odd sized rear window
47 years old it shrunk as soon as it came off . I highly doubt your glass or cab is different than any other , take the glass next time .

Re: odd sized rear window
There were three sizes of windows and gaskets in 67-72s. The small window in '67, the panoramic rear window in '67 that became the standard through '72, and the one that doesn't fit!

Re: odd sized rear window
Ok. I figured out what the deal was. As being a ROOKIE I did not know the seal looks bigger if you do not actually put it all the way on the window. It does fit. Was not made aware of this information. Thanks for everyones help. I have never done this before. So sorry about this.

Re: odd sized rear window
Glad you got this figured out. I had a similar issue when I did the windows on my Bug, but alas, after putting the new seals on the windows, they fit fine. Also, nice to see more members from our area on here. I am not too far from you or gr8-68 here in Winston Salem.

Re: odd sized rear window
thanks. I just didn't make sense why would the seal be so much bigger than the window and the old seal? Had never done this before. People that had that I was talking to never mentioned it or asked have you tried to put it all the way on? I thought I would have to stretch it to get it on. Thought it would fit like the OJ glove. Oh well lesson learned. Just glad its not something that had to be custom made.
