Cable X question - your thoughts and experiences

I want to run my original 1971 speedo with a 5.3 4L60e swap. I am in the process of swapping and haven't tried it yet. One option is running Cable X. I hear that some people have an issue with the speedo needle "jumping around" and bobbling and not moving smoothly.
You guys that have Cable X, what are you experiencing?

Did you use the ECD-100 unit? I didn't know DD made something like this. Thanks for the heads up.

I ordered the DD 100 as well. I have not recieved it yet.

Jumping speedometer can be from a worn speedometer.

Yep...ecd-100-1..it works very good and follows accelerating mph very close to gps..cruise mph is dead on..the speedo needle jumps a little when you first start moving but settles down quickly...its a little hair pulling to get setup at first...at first I was doing 97mph while idling in first gear..I didn't understand directions well at first..funny nobody ever told me cable-x made one

Re: Cable X question - your thoughts and experiences

I've had 4 Cable-X units over the past 15 years, and they seemed to be going down hill with each one. he first one I put on my Nova in 2001, and it still works great to this day, over 100k miles later. The second one I bought around 2004 and it worked good, but was never as smooth as the first. The third one I bought in 2007 and is on my LTD station wagon, and it is very lazy at first. You need to be going about 35-40mph after first start up for it to 'wake up' and start working, it's annoying. And the last one was on my old blue truck and it was a total pile, didn't work well at all, I bought it around 2010. That was the last straw for me, it's been electric speedos and speedo conversions since.

Re: Cable X question - your thoughts and experiences

I'm in the same boat as the OP and was excited about the DD option, but with the ecd100 at almost $300 I gotta wonder if I just make the jump to the DD digital dash. thanks for the info

Re: Cable X question - your thoughts and experiences

Yep that's the part that hurts...300...but I wanted to keep the stock look of my 81 dash..so it was worth it to me..but..like ls1nova says ..nothing wrong with going electric speedo..my next swap (1953) is on the line for electric or stock..but I'm still leaning stock..I just like the look..
