Drum brake question
So im doing the drums on my 71 c20 and i ran into a problem, i got new drums from napa and it turns out the holes for the the screws that hold on the drum dont line up, only one of the two holes line up. Do you guys think just one screw will be enough to hold the drum on or should i just drill a hole for the other screw so i have two holding it on.
Thanks Zach

Re: Drum brake question
Most of the time the screws are removed at the first brake job and never put back on. the wheel actually will hold the drum in place, so I don't think it is really necessary to have the screws in.

Re: Drum brake question
Agreed... the screws aren't needed.

Re: Drum brake question
As a further note, I thought I heard somewhere that they put the screws in to help hold the drum in place during the truck assembly process. Might be wrong, but it does make sense to me.

Re: Drum brake question
Seems like the only reason they would be there.

Re: Drum brake question
This was the same case for my 71 gmc longhorn. not sure if it really matters or not but I decided to put both screws back in place one behind the drum and the other holding the drum in place, my thinking was possible a balance issue but I have been know to overthink things A LOT... also I wanted to keep them in a safe place and not lose them. Incase I found a manufacturer that made these drum with the right hole alignments. My 12 inch drum took us a month to find and I am still looking for another set just to keep in stock.
