2wd Duramax?
Shopping for an LBZ. Currently using an 03 Yukon XL 8.1 4wd, and I'm wondering if I need to get 4wd this time. Hardly every use it, but I was glad to have it the few times it was needed... unexpected mud pit or ???.
I guess the real question is: Would a 2wd Duramax be any WORSE than a 2wd gas due to the extra forward weight bias of the heavy Duramax? The Dmax does have limited slip rear. Gonna pull a 2-horse trailer or dirt bikes on the weekends. Not super duty towing by any means. Thanks. |

Re: 2wd Duramax?
I'm old enough to recall when our roads were not the quality they are today and one seldom saw a 4wd pickup. We didn't need them back then. Until I retired the end of September, I drove a company pickup on and off road for 13 years. During that time I only HAD to utilize 4WD a handful of times. Of those times, could I have got by without 4WD? Maybe, I will never know. Point I trying to make is; Do we really need 4WD as much as we think? Is having 4WD worth the added cost, initial and miles per gal?
I have a '07 Duramax 2WD. (which is the only 2WD drive Duramax I have ever saw. All others in my area are 4WD.) I purchase it for, and primarily utilize it to, pull my 5th wheel. I love it, plenty of power when needed and great fuel mileage. Not sure I understand what you are asking regarding forward weight, but I don't notice an issue compared to other 2WD pickups I've owned. Shorty |

i need my 4wd duramax, but at minimum make sure it has a limited slip or locking rear to help it utilize its 2 drive wheels

Re: 2wd Duramax?
All GM HD's come with the gov lock diff. You'll be fine with 2wd.
