Edelbrock 1406 carb

Please see pics, problem was much worst and this is the result after the below was performed.
Carb completely rebuilt, float height set correctly per edelbrock specs.
Installed a fuel regulator set at 4.5 lbs, have tired 5.5 and 5 lbs
Timing is set
Carb adjusted with vacuum gauge


Why and or where is this fuel coming from?
Driving me nuts and want it fixed until the pull the trigger on EFI

I suspect that you have a float issue or some other internal leak that causes the gas to run out of the throttle shafts

It is possible on a tandem float if one float is cracked and absorbing fuel, it would float partway up when the bowl is full, you are getting the bowl overflowing .

yeah, throttle shafts don't contain fuel and don't leak. What's happening is the floats are not properly controlling the fuel level or the carb is boiling over. fuel drips from the booster ventruiis onto the butterflies and runs out the ends of the shaft. It can do this from either side or both. get it good and warmed up, pull the air filter and look down into the carb with good light. You should be able see dripping.

99% of these problems are caused by tiny specks of dirt in the needle and seat. where is your fuel filter and what type is it?

I'm confused by your answer . first you say they don't leak and then you say gas runs out the end of the shaft????? So can gas leak from a shaft or not leak?

A couple of ideas:

1) It's not gas, it's oil wicking up the intake bolt threads. Put thread sealer on them.

2) You need a vented fuel cap. Since it's summer, your gas is heating and expanding, pressurizing your entire fuel system and blowing gas past the needle/seat and overflowing the fuel bowl. Had it happen.

Tmoble gave just about the same concept of what I thought might be happening.

No there shouldn't be gas on the throttle shafts working thorough the bores in the base plate but if there is excess gas leaking inside the throttle bores and hitting the throttle plates it can work it's way out alongside the shafts especially if the shafts and bores of the shaft holes are worn.

Dirt under the seat, faulty float or gas being pushed through the line to the carb due to a tank that isn't vented properly.

My Edelbrock 1406 has the same Weber stamping.
