What's it worth? What's it worth Restored?

I am buying a 1964 GMC Truck with a straight 6 and 3 on the tree, with only 88,000 miles, the truck is in great shape for it's age, and also the original owner purchased a kit in the 60's to make it a dually and added 2 additional gas tanks, and the bed is only rotted out in the front two corners, other than that the truck is again In great shape, what is the approx. value of it now, and what could be the approx. value if I full restored it? And also it has very minimal rust!

Sight unseen? Who knows. I can tell you this, you will never ever recoupe your cost after you restore it. If it's gonna be your truck, then make it Your truck. Do it because you love it. Mine is priceless to me. Just my opinion.

Judging by what you describe...$2000. GMC's hold more value than Chevys do. Would be nice to see some pictures. Pending on How you restore it will either add or take value away. I can guarantee that slamming it and dumping a darn 350 in it will take value away. If your planning on buying to sell I would make it a nice driver, if the 6 banger is in good shape I would tune it up, make sure the tranny shifts ok, check the brakes and all fluids...give it a good bath and then sell it as is knowing it runs like a top and could be driven. But not putting to much money into it so you can get some profit and not sell it at a rip off price.

They tended to be the "higher" end truck GM offered. Plus you don't see as many of them as you do chevys. And the V6 adds value as well, especially to a GMC enthusiast.

Today, value is determined by demand. Performance, economy, reliability, and so on are important enough, but all take a back seat when compared to simple popular trends for setting worth on any given truck.
GMC fanatics may looove those V6's, but many more prefer the common SBC.
Please understand, I'm not saying which is better, just more popular.
An untouched survivor is another story altogether. This type of truck has appeal to a separate set of enthusiasts, some of which are willing to pay handsomely for highly original examples. ANY engine swap would be an error in this case whether it be Chevrolet, GMC, six, eight, or otherwise.

Pictures would be a big help to determining value. That being said it sounds like a cool truck but not a big money bringing kind of truck. I'm assuming its a 3/4 or 1 ton? 1/2 tons are generally more desirable given other wise equal trucks. Thats what most people are looking for. Nothing wrong with the bigger trucks and I've had them and like them but theres not nearly as many people wanting them. If you're looking for something to build for yourself all that matters is that you like it. If you're looking to do a full restoration and make money you would might be better off with a different truck.

That's the main problem. Thanks to people always throwing many pefrectly good v6's in the scrap yard it is getting to the point where I can hardly find parts to rebuild mine!

Someday, future generations are going to say that about the ubiquitous SBC too, as they get continue to get scrapped for LS motors:

a guy I know had a nice looking 66 GMC sub w/v6 PS grate running truck but every one wanted to buy his 64 sub that was not as nice and had to rebilled the motor no PS

It's hard to justify the cost of a SBC rebuild when I can pick up a superclean 40k mile LS motor w/ wiring for $500-800 that puts out more power. .

It's hard for me to justify having the Same motor in All my trucks.

Yep I agree, chevs are just in higher demand than gmc's, At least where I live they are.

And that's the other reason I don't run an sbc. My GMC 305v6 purrs like a kitten. If I could find a bigger one, that's what I'd be running in one of my trucks.

351's and larger engines pop up here and there on C/L and the 6066 GMC site. There is a guy in New York with a good running 478 that I wish I had the money to get. lol If your not on the GMC site already we'd love to have you join us and see some pictures.
