Loose Window Cranks

Hey all. I have loose, wobbly window cranks that really bother me and make it so I almost have to use two hands to roll the window up and down. I checked the teeth inside the plastic cranks (they are original) and they seem fine, yet an eye inspection can't really tell for sure. I plan on getting 70 vinyl door panels soon. Should I get new cranks as well to help tighten up the feel or will that not help? Thanks all

Are there different handles if you have the padded panels?

I ask because my truck has the metal door panel, plus a vinyl padded panel, plus a blue plastic disc. But if you just had the metal door panel, what would take up all the slack?

What I'm getting at is if you could have a mismatch between "fat door panel" and "thin door panel" handles, IF such difference exists, which I don't even know. So it's a long shot, but I'm curious!

Original window cranks aren't plastic. This is odd, two loose window crank threads in the same day on the same page

Yes, mine is the other post, and I'm annoyed that I have to even think about this. I don't like chasing all over town just trying to buy something that works. I have decided to keep my original metal handles and just get the plastic knob and see if that fixes my problem: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000COCXGS/

For this thread, it seems the OP needs a whole new handle in metal.

I got some springs shaped like a cone for my "69. Keeps a little pressure on them.

They are found on GM cars of the same era, and probably re-popped.

They just slip on over crankshaft, held on with slight pressure after installing crank handle. I think I got them from eBay, $10 bucks shipped. Worth it.

I swipe these from old d or c cell flash lights.(battery contact) they work ok but can be a pita.

Loose knobs, a small punch in the rivit first then a larger one too flatten out the rivit. Tightens up the knobs if they are not too worn out.

A 7/16"-1/2" socket slid over the shaft on the regulator can be tapped on too help close up the shaft hole if its opened up and wobbly. But the rear part is usually the sloppy side.
In either case a correct size washer welded too either side helps.

If the splines are sloppy in the crank.
smear/brush some jb weld into it.if ya heat the mixed epoxy with a heat gun it thins out nicely.
use a small peice of plastic shopping bag or plastic/cling wrap or something to prevent sticking/glueing the handle on. Push it into the hole too get it in and stuck too the shape of the splines and slowly push the crank back on.


Just be carefull not too glue it on

I allways dreded finding a nice set of cranks only too see a large screw holding the knob on.
