which fan shroud?

ran into a small problem with my 402 install in my 69 gmc 4x4. neither shroud seem to fit. i have a bb 2wd shroud and the 350 4x4 shroud that was in it. i set the motor in the factory spot. 350 mounts, the 4x4 shroud hits bottom pulley, and the factory clutch fan rubs lower shroud. before i chop up this shroud to fit is there another shroud out there that would fit? or smaller fan? i dont want to run electric fan. i know a few have done this swap . and i have the original harrison 4 core 4 spd rad that i need redone. any good shops? any help on this matter would be cool. paul

Re: which fan shroud?

I'm sure others have more knowledge than I do but perhaps the BBC fan is the wrong diameter? Have always thought no 4x4s came with a BBC until the square body styled trucks. Physical size of the BBC vrs. the SBC being different even if in stock 4x4 engine frame location it will move the fan forward closer to the rad. and the shroud. Have you measured the diameter of the fan you are using? May others with more knowledge will chime in for some help.

Re: which fan shroud?

19'' across, if i get an 18'' and use a spacer and notch my shroud to clear pulley it will work.

Re: which fan shroud?

"Think" that may be the problem, believe trucks used a ''18 fan, passenger cars used a ''19 fan. Can you find any part numbers or such stamped on the fan blades? Most of the GM fans and many other brands of fans I have seen have a part number and date code stamped into the edge of each blade. Replied to your parts ad.

Re: which fan shroud?

I am changing to an electrical fan... Will check tomorrow what size fan was in.... my '72 C10 has the 402/400 combo.... if needed can make some pic's and can do some measurements.... mine is not a 4X4....
