Re: Paint?
I've been researching plasti dip as a temporary deal until I get the funds to repaint. I can also see what I like and don't like. Working on my body repairs now. Once that is done I'll dip it. Thinking about two tone. But I found these you might like.

Re: Paint?
Smooth black paint looks amazing on these trucks.
However, many would argue that black is the hardest color to paint because every single little detail will show/pop out in the black. |

Re: Paint?
Ok, I'll say it. No, don't put red accents. Unless that's what you really, really want. Stock look will likely make you happier in the long run - especially as your tastes change. I think that, unless you're going with a fairly heavily customized truck, paint schemes other than stock combos detract from the look of a "truck". Look at it this way - even the best wild custom slammed trucks usually sport stock or patina paint jobs. Imagine the guy cruising down the street with his factory paint light purple PT cruiser. And THEN imagine him adding red stripes... It just doesn't seem to click for me.
If your mind was made up, you'd be showing us how you're GOING TO paint it, not asking what we think - and I applaud that question if you're not sure. Now - note that I said stock paint "scheme" as opposed to stock "color". I think that if you want to go custom "a little" - use a slightly different color that wasn't offered in your model year in one of the stock two tone schemes - either conventional or deluxe two tone (for some reason, when using non-stock colors, it always look better in one of the two tone combos, lends to the "almost" stock theme somehow - whereas solid non-stock colors can look good, they lose their almost stock appearance (to me)). Like maybe an 01 Chev Midnight Blue metallic with a white top. Or even deluxe two tone. OR, what about a mid-70's metallic dark root beer (or whatever it was called...) with white in deluxe two tone. Or just a stock GM truck color that was available in a different year can be a good idea for slightly custom. Makes people do a double take, still tasteful, yet custom. I'm just spit-ballin here, but that's my 2 cents. If you're gonna chop it, slam it, short-bed it, or, in your case, perhaps make a monster truck out of it, well, then by all means, throw a stripe or two on it. Otherwise, stock rocks, as does something close to it. Ok, I'll sit on my typing hands now. Please don't take my suggestions the wrong way - there IS NO wrong answer - this stuff is fun and wondering what color you'll paint your truck can sometimes be more fun that actually painting it, ha! In the end, it's yours, it will be cool no matter what you do as long as you do what YOU like - but since you asked, well, that's my 2 cents. That and a quarter won't get you a cup of coffee. Personally, I see your truck dropped to only a 2" lift, black top with Yankee running lights, and solid ochre body! Some examples, the last picture just for your black paint fancy: if ya gotta go with black, which is hard to make perfect as already stated, this is a GREAT classic combo: Last edited by jocko; 09-02-2016 at 10:43 PM. |
