55.2-59 55-59 Windshield dimensions

Wondering if anyone has a schematic (if it exists) of the dimensions of the windshield opening for a TF. Having a bit of trouble getting winsdhield in after total restortation and Id like to me sure the dimensions of the opening are correct. Thanks in advance!

Try fitting it without the rubber. It should have about 3/16 to a 1/4 all the way round

That is a toughie big time! Coming up with dimensions you could measure would be damn hard being the shape that it is.

Do as dwcsr said, you and someone else hold the glass in place without the rubber and there should be about a, 3/16" gap all the way around. Look at how the rubber is made and where it fits and get an idea of where the glass sets.

Setting these windows is a bit of a wrestling match and the rubber seems too big. It takes some gentle/tough dancing to get it in.

when I welded the rear cab panel into my 57 I used a couple of pieces of the old rubber to hold the window in place as I work alone. worked great.

I posted this on Denee's build a while back. She was having trouble getting a standard size windshield to fit her cab. As far as I am aware my cab has not been modified. I am not saying mine is right, just throwing this out there for reference. Eventually I will put new glass in my cab, then I will know if a standard windshield for 55-59 fits.

if you need to increase the windshield opening...
we used a porta power to jack on the bottom of the S on the a pillar
passenger side is braced (where we jacked) while we spread the drivers side
blue line is an exagerated start point, purple is the new body line
the guy marked ''hero'' is an old school body man
be careful, not sure how you'd recover from an overjack

I have found the "new" windshields do not fit very well. I ended up breaking one when I tried to install it after messing with it for over an hour. I ended up digging through my pile of original ones, found a decent one and had it installed in about 15 minutes. The new windshield was way thinner.

I had perfect luck with how the new windshield fit in my '57. Couldn't have asked for better.

Hey Roger,
I followed your build - amazing work.

What brand of windshield gasket do you use? I have the same windshield - bought locally from Apple auto Glass- having. Slightly hard time with install.

Did you install your windshield yourself?

I got my gasket from Brothers. I don't know what brand they supplied me with. Worked great though.
Yes I did it myself. It was pretty darned easy.

One thing I find helpful is to carefully place the glass in the channel first without the gasket. Makes it easy to find the exact center and then make some marks on the body and glass.

Otherwise, it's hard to find the exact center without marks once the gasket is installed on the glass.
