Help identifying unknown part

Hey there guys, I am new to the forum and have been lurking for a week or two, and could use a little bit of knowledge from people familiar with these trucks. I recently purchased a 72 c10 lwb and I am in the process of getting her up and running. I am trying to find out what the black knob to the left of the white brake release t-bar is in the picture below. I thought it might possibly be a manual choke knob, but haven't seen one under the dash on any other trucks in threads on the forum. Thanks in advance.

Nevermind. I was messing with it while it was dark outside. Looks to open the small vent it's attached to. Please disregard.

Welcome to our world of do it yourself, figure it our for yourself, and fix it yourself!

You will curse that old truck at times and when its 100% you will be so happy you bought it you will laugh at the rest of the broken down fancy, electrical can do anything without a dealership pieces of crap they need 4000 grand to fix it world.

That knob has been altered at some point...and attached to vent system.
Originally, that would have been the activation system for the on-board passenger ejection seat for non respectful passengers.

And here I always thought it was an early emission control device that cut off 2 of the 8 cyl when at cruising speed.

It's the cab choke - it serves to limit the amount of air that can be drawn into the cab :-)

Nothing like a stupid question for a first post, I suppose. Nice to see some helpful fellows on the board. I am sure it won't be the last dumb question.

Truck came with no motor and I'm in the process of installing a tbi 350 out of an 88 c1500. I have the manifold and headers otw and am planning on a summit carb. I was going to have the frame cut for swb stepside but long box has grown on me, plus I felt it'd be a shame to hack up a truck that still had the original paint. Pretty sure the old girl is unmolested minus the hood that the PO kept and the 350 being removed. Cab corners, rockers, and lower doors need work. Also looks like I've got my work cut out for me with the drip rail/roof area according to old threads, but I'm hoping to breathe some new life into her

Regarding that vent, there's probably a ton of trash that has collected in both sides.

It would help to vacuum those out well, and don't open them at highway speed until they're clean, or you run the risk of blasting your cab with trash.
