1950 3600 "Wanda"
I'm new to the forum and thought it was time to start my own build thread. I drug this ol girl out of a garage where she hasn't moved in over 25 years. It was originally a cab & chasis & po found a long box to put on it. Well we all love pics. Here is when I 1st pulled her out of the garage.
Then a set of wheels & tires that I had around & a wash job. Still on trailer. |

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
My plans for this pickup are to clean her up & clear coat, new brakes, c if the the ol 235 inline will run again, & new interior. Basically keep as original as possible & make a safe driver. Nothing fancy just a project to cut my teeth on and have as a driver for stress relief on my '66 c10 project!
Here's the interior I know the seat cover doesn't look bad but the mice made one stinking hotel out of it n 25 years! |

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
thats a great start! any time you can still see the factory interior paint you are looking at a great start.
consider changing the rear axle and springs, that eaton rear end will have a 5.16 gear in it at best (top speed somewhere around 45) and the heavy rear springs will ride like a buckboard. should clean up though!

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
Nice work. The CLR wash and wheels/tires made it look like a different truck.

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
This morning my boy & I gave mom a break & headed out to the shop. Earlier this week I took all the fuel lines off & cleaned them. Cleaned fuel tank, replaced fuel pump & took carb off to rebuild. When I purchased this rig it came with a second carb off of the truck that he got the stepwise bed off of. I had a buddy rebuild it for me thinking I could swap out & have him rebuild the other one & have 2. This is when I started to think that I don't have the original motor. The spare carb doesn't fit. Oh well maybe I can sell it. I'll just have to wait & get the other carb rebuilt. So after cleaning the rest of fuel lines I thought I'd replace radiator hoses. This is where I got hint #2 that I don't have the original 216. The outlet on radiator is 1" & outlet on engine 1.25". Oh well I'll make some adapters out of black pipe nipples. I've done it before with
My nephew's 6.0 ls swapp in a '82 k30. Sorry for being so long but leads me to my question. Where can I find what motor is in this truck? Here's the pic of block vin I think! Thanks in advance! I also got a shot of my boy while I was cutting pipe. Apparently it's load. Made me giggle anyway!

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
After our madness this morning the family & I headed to a local car show! So here's some pics!
This GMC was very sharp patina build that I'm going for but doubt mine will ever get this nice. You gotta love the pre '47's! These are all I could get a quick pic of, but was a pretty good show!

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
well hopefuly you're motivated!
Regarding the engine #, there should be a tag right behind the dist., on the right side of the motor. That should give you a little more info. The numbers you got are the castings, which are important, but if you find the serial #, that will tell you the date the block was made. |

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
Wow it's been awhile! Things have finally slowed down on the farm & I have found some time for Wanda. One rainy spell during harvest I worked on the interior.
I cleaned up the floor to get ready for paint. Primed & painted the floor. I found out recently that I did things backwards and shouldn't have done this step yet! This is all that I got done that was photo worthy since harvest started. The Monday after Christmas I had some buddies over and helped me get spark from ignition. So I've been working on the interior so I can get the fuel tank back in and here this thing run! More to come...

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
I grabbed my fuel tank off of the shop floor where I left it for a couple months. I was gonna CLR & clearcoat it. Heard something inside & dumped out a pile of rust. So on to LMC to order a new fuel tank.
I decided to CLR my steal luggage box that was m gonna use as a toolbox, stole idea from grizz and a few other guys on here. Thanks for all the great ideas guys! Couldn't believe how the brass polished up! I wish the latches & more hardware would be brass but it turned out pretty decent.

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
So then it was time to get back in the cab to get ready to put fuel tank back in. Remember when I said I was out of order? I didn't think the headliner would be a complete mouse craphole of a disaster. Sure glad I already painted the floor. Oh well! I didn't get enough pics of this but a lot of surface rust on the roof. I cleaned it up with die grinder & scotch bride pads, then primed & painted. After CLR & clear coat I finally started going back together. And now the pics.
The headliner/mouse nest Put insulation in behind seat. Put new fuel tank in. Put on new door panels, arm rests, and the original handles after polishing. I do have a question here. How are the door handles supposed to be? Should they be straight done so you pull back to open, or how I have them?

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
Awhile back I got a Durango 2nd row seat pretty cheap. I decided to take an in. off of the front of the og seat frame, weld 1/8" by 2" angle iron in, and weld another piece of angle iron flush with the back of the og frame.
The 2nd row seat mounts on hinges in the front of the seat because they tip up. It'll be nice under seat storage I think. The middle seat has rear anchors and the passenger seat and drivers seat rests on rubber bumpers on the outside and latch to the center section. So I came up with the plant to run 4 1/4" by 2" pieces of strap from front to back to tie everything down. Welded them up, then the seat had to go back in to test fit and mark holes for drilling. I had approval! Drilled my holes, primed, painted, and called it a day.

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
love those 46, thanks for the pictures!
seat work looks great, yellow is a primer color now huh? I have put the handles either way, down on the 47 and horizontal on the 49. I like both.

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
It's a John Deere buff primer. I set it all the time on my welding projects & antique John Deere tractors. I guess I haven't really tried much of anything else. This is my first project where the final color won't be John Deere green.

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
Well it's been a busy week here but I did get a few things done on Wanda. It's hard to see but 1st is a pic of painted roof.
Then kept on insulating. Then I cleaned up the dash & gave it a shot of clear. Also cleaned up windshield & headliner trim & cleared them also. Pic of the "toolbox" mounted. Thought I needed a pic of the windshield taped up.

Re: 1950 3600 "Wanda"
Got the carpet in & seat installed.
I also put new rubbers on door. What a PITA. But it's done. I keep getting closer and ordering more parts.
