v6 v 305

ive got a 86 custom deluxe with the 4.3 motor in it and a th350 trans. Lately ive been driving it alot and i find it kinda underpowered, especially when i take off from a dead stop or want to merge on the highway. I have an extra 305 motor in the garage that allegedly runs well. would i find that much more power outta the 305 or should i just save my pennies and go for a 350 next year

That 305 V6 is a classic alright......
They make good torque but are a very heavy engine and don't give modern fuel economy.
I would go with a 350 V8 no doubt if that what I had to choose from.

i have a 4.3 v6 in it now. it runs and drives fine but it is kinda underpowered for my sometimes heavy right foot. I was thinking of replacing that 4.3 V6 with a 305 V8 i have in the garage. I was wondering if id see much of a performance difference or should i wait to buy a 350 in the spring?
Sorry for the confusion guys

If you change to the 305 now and still aren't satisfied with the performance, you will probably change to the 350 anyway. I'd save yourself some trouble, wait for the 350, and just perform the V8 upgrade once. That's just my opnion.

I would just hold out for the 350. On the brighter side, the 4.3 is a 350 just missing 2 cylinders, so most of your accessories should fit. Is the 4.3 a TBI engine? If so, I would definitely just wait. You would need to find a 5.7 ecm to use as well.

Gibble.....GM did come out with a 305 V6. A common misnomer much like the Chevy 302 that everyone answers with "302? Only f*rd made a 302.

I'm not positive on the years and models it came in, but was around through the 60's found in half tons all the way up to the 6500 series trucks (a 478 V6 was available in 1964 ). Here's a pic of the 305...spread the word, they're cool rare engines.

I have a '92 chevy truck with the 4.3 in it, and my '86 Blazer with the 305. Honestly, I can not tell that much difference between the two.

I say wait for the 350.

From my experience, the 305 will give you the power of a V6 and the gas mileage of a V8. Wait for the 350!

that 305 looks almost like a big block in those pics, until you look at the exhaust! I had one in a 69 GMC 1 ton, so they were produced until at least then. Good low end, but changing the plugs was kind of a pain when you dropped one.

check out this website, some cool stuff here. there was a 351E V6 available in 66 (dunno if this carried over to 67 tho). 220 hp, 320 tq.

they also made a 702 V12 by attaching two 351's!!

ok yall convinced me im saving for the 350. Luckilly my current set up is a carbuerated system and ill keep a carbuerated system so it should be a pretty easy swap. Im planning on getting some kind of crate motor prolly from summit or jegs or something . Thank you all for your input!
