Front drum to disc... Spindles?
I just got a 67 Chevy C10 for my daughters first car... She is about to get her license, and that's what she wants, parenting win!! I want to upgrade the steering and brakes, so will have a few questions coming, but today's topic is front brakes...
It has 6 lug wheels, with drum brakes. I see there are several kits available. Some have new spindles, along with the calipers, ect. There are also kits that use the stock spindles. I would prefer going that way, so I don't have to mess with ball joints, alignment, ect. Is there any benefit or drawback to either method? I am also going to upgrade the manual brakes to power with a new booster and master cylinder. Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks, Earl |

if you swap to 73 and up spindles the parts will be readily available all the time. the cpp conversion kits from what ive seen are fairly new to the market. i dont know how available the parts are..
but you gotta think.... the ball joints on the truck now are OLD! and theyre not bad to replace. and you can get 6 lug rotors from any of our suppliers.

Nice, my daughter is also on the fence about a 67, she is into the classics. Anyhow I have done all that you are working on. The removal of the balljoints is not all that difficult except for a bit of grinding. If you have drums up front you will have to remove them if you want discs up front as there are no spindles with drum brakes. I got all my kits from POL. Now the power steering, well if you have a V8 no problem but if you have an inline 6 the brackets can be a problem. For this you can go power steering or rack and pinion, Unisteer makes a bolt on kit (again I say this, but it all depends on you engine) What engine do you have?

Classic Industries parts and accessories has ABS brake kits that utilize the stock spindles. Don't know if they are any good of of anyone that has them.
