Anyone help identify this rearend?

I need to find out what rearend I have under my 53 Chevy panel truck. It does have a 5x5 lug pattern. I was told some kind of Cadillac, but he was unsure. Anyone have any thoughts? I can't get underneath it at the moment to check for any numbers, too muddy!! I hoping its strong enough to pull a small camp trailer with it. Thanks

Re: Anyone help identify this rearend?

I wouldn't be surprised if someone else can ID that pretty quickly. I've seen an axle like that but I'll be danged where. It doesn't look like GM to me. A round driveshaft flange wasn't real common in GM land. And most GM drop center axles have a welded on rear "cover." Are the leaf spring pads welded to eyes?

Mid/late 60's Cadillac I think, That flange was used on a lot of Cads with CV joints in the drive shaft.

Here is a 68 that a Caddy guy rigged up for bags. http://www.modifiedcadillac.org/foru...opic=7905.105
