wiper motor

Hi guys,

I have a '58 235 Apache and the wiper motor needs attention. It stopped in the middle of a downpour, but came back to life later. If I can remove it I'll see if the bushes just need replacing, rather than buying a new motor. It looks like the screws have special heads on the scuttle below the hood. I don't suppose I'd find the correct tool, but do they just unscrew with a large slotted screwdriver? Is this how to get access to the motor, or can it be done inside the cab? Anything else I might encounter?

You can disconnect the wiper arms from the motor and electrical wires and unbolt the
motor assembly from under the dash. Way easier to service it on the bench then from
underneath the dash.

more than likely the screws are called ''clutch head '' screws ---sort of a figure eight design - sorta like this ...8.....clutch head screwdrivers are available online

Daze57 is Correct, and i neglected to say they are Clutch headed screws
that hold and bolt the motor to the plate under the dash.
you should be able to get Clutch head screw drivers from most of the vendors online

I've heard Snap on type best, set like this is working for me:

I found work best in my rigid impact driver to shock em loose just get it in tight and deep to avoid strip out

you're speaking brit, but if i get your drift your talking about the cowl vent panel?
the cowl vent does not come off to access the wipers, the wiper motor is under the dash, above the radio
any tf truck with a 235 has vacuum wipers

Ogre, i am just saying here, My 58 & 59 both had 235's and were equipped
with electric motors and switch.

Hey Ogre, i got to thinking about this, Both my 58 and 59 are big back window trucks,
and i have bought a couple of parts trucks (all small back window and 235 equipped)
and they all had vacuum motors in them,(standard issue heaters also) black plastic knobs and bare bone issue trucks, the 58 and 59 did have 235 in them, But had deluxe heater and
passenger side sun visor,Radio's, chrome knobs and stainless on the cab and windshield.
just wondering if they were given the electric wipers as an up graded item?
Hard to tell i guess?

there were a lot of dealer options back then, my buddy started out working in a dealership back in 57
if you wanted a side mounted spare, sometimes the truck would get shipped to them with a primered fender and spare mount in the bed

My 58 was stripped down version but had electric wipers. My 57 had vacuum.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the useful advice regarding the wiper motor. I'll check it out from under the dash. Should be simple enough with the radio removed. Ogre - at least I said hood and not bonnet!
