Am I thinking right?

When I try to start my 69 pickum up, it cranks over fast and fine, but won't start. the second I release the key to run position it starts. It doesn't matter if it's hot or cold start. this is something that started acting up for a few weeks, about 90% of the time. nothing new, other than a new key set I installed about six months ago. I believe it's the ignition switch, but before getting one I want to here your opinions. Am I correct in my thinking????

Re: Am I thinking right?

If is still has points then the bypass circuit is open. (the bypass circuit may be open due to a bad key switch!) If it does not have a resistor in the ignition system it is probably the key switch.

Re: Am I thinking right?

Confirm with a jumper to the coil from the battery +. If it starts right up, you know the circuit isn't giving the needed voltage as designed. I vote for ignition switch as well.

Re: Am I thinking right?

the little wire down on the starter solenoid has probably broken at the terminal, check this first before getting another ignition switch.....i have had this happen
