No replacement parts for vintage air units?

I read someone's post recently that said vintage air does not sell replacement parts for their systems. Is that right? You spend a grand or more for their system and some part fails, what will you do?

Re: No replacement parts for vintage air units?

Summit racing sells individual parts for VA. Get the part numbers from VA's website. I had to replace a hose that fell on my alternator pulley and bought a hose kit and had to buy one additional part.

Re: No replacement parts for vintage air units?

I could not get the actuators that opened the heater door on my V/A system and because the build took so long it was out of warranty ,I had to but a complete new system to get the heat to work .I now have a spare junk kit worth nothing .I will probably never use V/A again.

This is my biggest worry about getting one. I see they have a price increase coming but I cant bring myself to get one for the simple reason as it will probably be out of warranty by the time I use it.

I used to work for Classic Auto Air. They sold individual parts. I remember putting in a couple of orders myself for customers. Just needed the part number. Of course this was more than a decade ago. They may have changed since then

I am probably going to need some parts that I lost, if you have some, let me know what you may have.
Thanks

They may have changed since then i actually dealt with them on friday and bought parts for a 64-6 that had been lost on a long term build. no problems here!!!!!

Thumbs up Re: No replacement parts for vintage air units?

Classic auto group AC air all the way much better unit's than V/A in my opinion.
I have used them 2 times and both times they where great to deal with.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: No replacement parts for vintage air units?

Vintage Air offers a full line of replacement parts that can be ordered separately to service their full line of Sure Fit and Universal Kits. However some components may need to be replaced at the factory so the part may need to be sent in for service. If there are any questions on this please contact Vintage Air Sales or Technical Departments at 800-862-6658, Thank you.

I had to replace the heater valve/switch on my VA. Called up VA and they shipped out a replacement. No complaints here.

Re: No replacement parts for vintage air units?

I won't be using a Vintage air setup on my '69 GMC after the unit I had on my '71 GMC. The system never worked right, A/C never really got cold. They blamed it on my compressor, which they claimed was a variable displacement, which it wasn't. After I proved them wrong, they said it wasn't evacuated properly, which it was, I did it myself with my $5000 Robinair A/C machine. Than they said I didn't charge it with the correct amount of refrigerant, and on and on and on. Finally got a hint from someone to adjust the cutout switch on the box and than they system worked 'better' but still not right. After that ordeal, never again will I use Vintage Air on anything.

There was a thread about this a few days ago. I have seen companies with lifetime warranty parts stop producing. It sucks to loss this resource.

Re: No replacement parts for vintage air units?

I'm not saying anybody did anything wrong but I have installed several Vintage Air kits in customers and my own vehicles and they work.

IMO a company that has been around for over 40 years must have a good product that works, that they stand behind and excellent customer service. However there will always be some people that don't like certain companies, for example I'll never buy a Ford. Not because Ford is bad I just don't like them.

Re: No replacement parts for vintage air units?

My current V/A system works fine but having to buy 2 kits because V/A would not help stinks .Both kits were installed by competent shops .the air part worked fine on the first one ,the heat blend door would not open because the actuator was bad and V/A said they NEVER went bad and would not help at all.

Re: No replacement parts for vintage air units?

What pissed me off the most about Vintage Air is when I did have a problem with it, they blamed everything else but their product. They even questioned me and stated I should of had it installed by a professional repair shop. After I offered to send them a copy of my business license ( I run an auto repair shop, been here 23 years), my ASE master tech and MACS A/C certificates, they calmed down a bit but still were not able to help me. They kept blaming the compressor which was the same displacement as their Sanden unit, basically I had an OE version of the aftermarket Sanden. Luckily I was able to make my system work 'acceptably' well with a tweak of the cutout switch! The rest of their system was great and installed well I will say, no complaints there!!!

Good luck, I know I won't give them a 2nd chance

Mike

Re: No replacement parts for vintage air units?

here is a response i got when i asked them about individual parts:

Which individual parts do you seek out?
If you are looking for the kit minus a compressor and bracket, we can do that.
If you are wanting something taken out of the evaporator kit, we cannot do that.
We can exchange the controls in most cases but not individual pieces.

Give me a call if you would like further information or to let me know what parts you would like to delete from kit.

Thank you,
