Needing buying advice
Hey everyone I usually spend most of my time on the 60-66 side but came across this pickup. 59 Apache 32 original family owns it from California, been repainted once, original motor owner says truck has 244,000 miles. Very minimal rust, couple dings. He's asking 7500. Would that be too much for a 3/4ton? Not sure what the value of these are

Re: Needing buying advice
I did a quick search here in the central valley and found a 3200 for $9k
So at face value, looks like its on the level if all the info is true. I guess it all depends on what you want with it. If you're looking for a flip, I don't think there's a lot of margin there. IMO, the issue is that its a 3/4 ton, longbed, but it is a big back window... decisions decisions... Last edited by iowaboynca; 11-13-2016 at 03:00 PM. |

Re: Needing buying advice
32 is a half ton long bed, looks pretty straight, big back window, chrome trim on the spears. If it's a runner I'm sure it will sell for that price.

Re: Needing buying advice
It looks like it's a 3200 1/2 ton not a 3/4 ton.

Re: Needing buying advice
It looks like there is some damage on the door plus the start of some rust in the photo in post 6 but almost every TF that hasn't been totally redone in the past few years seems to have a bit of rust in that area.
It would be nice if you could find someone on the board who lives close to it that could go and look at it first hand and take some high quality photos that show all aspects of it. That way you would at least have an outside opinion on what it is really like.

Re: Needing buying advice
I was thinking the same as Mr48chev suggests ... to determine what it really looks like. How solid is it?
And buying one long distance, beating out local buyers is pretty difficult. |

Re: Needing buying advice
You always assume there is some hidden rust. A long fleet with side trim, V8 all the chrome inside and out is there, big window, decently painted. I think I'd pay the 7500 and think I got a nice deal. I would have someone look at it close up to make sure its not a pig with lipstick, and then buy it anyway

Re: Needing buying advice
It looks well worth it to me, I like the long bed fleetsides , big window is a +, and the bedside trim was a 1 year only option+++ I've been clicking on the Contact Seller button but with no luck,(I could use a 4th task Force truck)
Not sure if you thought about shipping cost also.... |

Re: Needing buying advice
Vehicles in that middle price range always move quickly. You can find cheap non-running beaters for under $2000, or perfectly restored or rodded trucks for $25-50,000. But nice trucks in the four-figure range are relatively rare.

Re: Needing buying advice
265 no filter on block, early 283 bolt on cannister on block, later 283 spin on. At least he is being honest in that regard, every truck or car I see with an early SBC has "Corvette" engine according to the seller... If you want to check what it is for sure get the front engine pad code (in front of passenger head), and rear casting number and date code (top of block behind driver head).

Re: Needing buying advice
Isn't that a six cylinder starter pedal next to the accelerator? I wonder if he meant a 235 engine.

Re: Needing buying advice
They went to spin on in 68 on all sbc. from the info I can gather. Novas with the different casting in the area of the oil filter to raise it for clearance had spin on filters from 64 when they started putting V8 engines in.
Tens of thousands of the spin on adapters got sold over the past 50 years though. If you put one of those on you have to use the gasket from the canister plus you have to use the bypass valve from the canister filter because the adapter is tightened against it and because it won't filter the oil without it. Leaving it out makes for great oil leaks too.
