power window & power lock harness photos
photo documentation of power window and power lock setup removal from a 1978 gmc c35...
photo 1: passenger door with untouched wiring (other than door panel removed). labels 1, 2, and 4 are clips into door. label 3 is the ground secured to one of the regulator bolts. both the lock and window wires go through the hole near label 1. labels 5 and 6 are the connectors to the switches. photo 2: flex duct between cab and pass. door. 4 bolts (they were screws on the driver door). i found it easiest to first remove all the wire connections on the door, then remove the two bolts from the flex duct on the door, then remove the door. that way you can start to pull the loom out of the door while you remove the door and lower it to the ground. the reverse might make sense on the reinstall. photo 3: loom entering cab on passenger side behind glove box, as seen through the glove box door. there are three connectors here. photo 4: looking through the glove box still, the loom runs up to the underside of the top of dash where it's connected with one clip. photo 5: same clip as photo 4, seen from above.

Re: power window & power lock harness photos
photo 6: similar to photo 1 but this is the driver side.
photo 7: view of driver door locking mechanisms from inside before removal. exterior skin on the right, facing the rear of the door. photo 8: driver side flex duct with loom entering cab pillar. the holes drilled in all door and pillar locations are 1-1/4" holes. the outer pillar holes are two holes with a total opening height of 2 inches. photo 9: driver side loom leaving pillar and going up into dash. only one hole on the inside of the kick panel. no loom/wire clips here. there used to be grommets on both kick panel holes, they had fallen through inside the pillars. photo 10: looking through gauge cluster area. the loom comes up from the pillar hole, and crosses over to the other side of the gauge cluster with no apparent clips. there are two wires that split off in the center of this image (i didn't get a photo). the wires were disconnected but i believe they connected around the fuse box somewhere.

Re: power window & power lock harness photos
photo 11: wider view of the pw/pl loom behind the gauge cluster. it simply crosses over and heads toward the passenger door. in this photo the arrow on the right is the passenger loom after being removed from the dash, just hanging. at the left arrow is the "tee" where two small looms leave the main loom. see next photo.
photo 12: two small looms heading downward, mentioned in last photo. photo 13: the two small looms terminate at two small relays (or some kind of modules) that are both mounted to the side of the brake pedal bracket (left arrow). there is an orange wire that splits off and goes through the firewall through a grommet. photo 14: small orange wire going through firewall. photo 15: engine bay side of the orange wire.

Re: power window & power lock harness photos
photo 16: passenger outer pillar holes.
photo 17: dimensions of driver side hole through kick panel (passenger is mirror of this). 1.25" hole, center is 3.75" from edge of steel under door seal. didn't have a good way to measure the reference elevation, but it's tucked just a bit behind the dash. any lower and the loom would interfere with the plastic kick panel. photo 18: front of driver door (passenger is mirror of this). dimensions as shown. photo 19: driver side pillar (passenger is mirror of this). dimensions as shown. photo 20: all parts removed.

Is that orange firewall wire the only one that has mice chew marks? |
