Brake pedal ratio?

Does anyone know the brake pedal ratio for our trucks (64 C10). Going to upgrade brakes to the Pro Performance Pro 3 Baer kit with master, power booster and CPT FAB's bracket for booster to firewall. Our trucks were mostly manual brakes and converting to power may require a pedal ratio adjustment.....or does it?

Re: Brake pedal ratio?

The CPP and Master Power Brakes site will help you. A Google search will help as well. I just went through brake hell with my '65. My brakes are drum front and rear for now.

Using Capt Fab's bracket, new power booster, and dual master, I split the lines. After all new hardware and bleeding the system to death I have very good brakes.

You must drill another hole in your manual brake pedal arm. Both sites give very good information but basically I drilled another hole 1 1/2 inches below the original. This made a big difference in the pedal travel.

Re: Brake pedal ratio?

Thanks, 38392. I too have gone through brake hell with the 64. Even though I have 73-87 disc up front (all new) and GM Monte Carlo disc in the rear I was experiencing far too much pedal (an inch from the floor) travel before I got any brakes. Some of this may have been the master. I bleed those suckers forever.

I have been reading disc brakes front and in the rear require quite a bit of volume to work correctly to apply needed pressure. I'm hoping the Baer 1 inch bore Remaster MC, their prop valve and adjusting the the brake pedal ratio along with the bigger brakes (14" front 6 piston and 13"rear 4 piston will slow this thing down. I'm moving quite a bit of rotating mass with the Detroit steel wheels....they weigh 40lbs each.

Re: Brake pedal ratio?

we had a trouble with our 64 that the brake pedal almost hit the floor after we made a disc brake convertion using CPP front disc brake and vacum booster. It was a quick fix , just to drill a new hole in the pedal like you see in the picture. This is in a "daily driver" and no problems after two years

Re: Brake pedal ratio?

Norway, That looks to be about an inch down from the original location. So, someone else said and inch and a half. That's two folks who have said put a new hole about an inch or so down and problem solved. Time to get the drill.

Thanks everyone!
