Calling all LS3's
How does the engine perform in our trucks? What issues did you in counter? What would you have done different? Which HP rating are you running? I am thinking of going with the 525hp GMPP connect and cruise. Any experience with this motor? Too much power for a street truck? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Re: Calling all LS3's
I have the LC9 327 connect and cruise in my 70 C10 and love it. It has 3.73 rear which might be a little low but will cause chirp on rear tires by just punching gas. It has 100hp over 307 but feels like 2 engines. Mileage at 60 mph on back roads - 22 mpg. Best it ever got before was 16 mpg. I bought truck new and now like it more than ever.

Re: Calling all LS3's
I am building my second C10 with an LS motor. First was a 5.3 from a salvage yard, stock, 300 HP or so. Had a 4L60E with 3.73 open dif. Ran great, got excellent gas mileage (over 20 mpg). I later changed out to a 3.23 posi, which was too tall. Lost some acceleration, and motor turned too low at highway speeds. Made it not stay in lockup overdrive... Hunted around... Didn't really pick up any gas mileage either.
New build is a LS3, the 430 HP one. Still running a 4L60E, and 3.73 Moser rear end. Haven't gotten this one completed, but am expecting it to be excellent. Have a friend who had a 500+ HP LS build, in a '70 that was to be used in auto crossing. He spent a lot of money on a Porterbuilt suspension, front and rear. Truck has been wrecked 3 times. Easily wants to switch ends, per him, too much horsepower... (Not a phrase I've heard very often.) I love the LS swaps, because I love to drive my truck, and it makes it extremely reliable and virtually no maintenance. Just my experience.... On the first, I used the factory computer. Now I'm using a smaller, think it's a E37? Much easier to program and nothing to delete. Got it with the wiring harness from RCI in Huntsville AL. Ricky there is a LS expert. Very knowledgable and things are priced reasonable. It's where I got my crate motor as well... Last edited by darrellyates; 12-11-2016 at 08:50 PM. Reason: More information... |

Re: Calling all LS3's
Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if the 525 HP version would be too much HP for a street truck.

Re: Calling all LS3's
It's definitely way more than you need. And I mean to have fun. People get so jaded on HP ratings and want more and more when all they need to do is learn the meaning of "enough".

Re: Calling all LS3's
I don't have an LS3, but I have a carbed and cammed LS1 with a 700R4 and 4.11 gears. It's making approx. 380-400hp at the rear wheels. I still have stock suspension, just lowered. The engine is tame enough that anyone could drive it like a grandma, but when you mash the loud pedal, it quickly comes alive!! It mostly depends on how aggressive I get, but in inexperienced hands, it could get away from someone real quick.
I currently spend more time autocrossing my truck more than anything, but I still enjoy just taking it out and driving it however I please.

Ended up ordering the 525hp connect and cruise kit. Ordered the kit from JEGS
they matched a price from here http://edrinkeperformance.com/connec...sls3765254l70e with free shipping plus a 500.00 rebate. Should arrive Wednesday or Thursday. Now just got to get the Chassis done! |

Re: Calling all LS3's
I have the LS3 eRod 430hp, and it's plenty fast enough (at least traction wise, as first gear is unusable, so more power wouldn't be better in that case). Assuming the 525hp version still has good street manners, you'll love it!
I bought mine on Amazon.com of all things! Here's the 525hp: https://smile.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb...SLS3765254L70E Don't forget that there's a $500 rebate on the Automatic version, or there was until very recently, so remember to get the form and fill it out!

Re: Calling all LS3's
The 525 is suppose to behave well on the street according to GMPP. Hopefully with some wide tires and posi-traction it will hook. Time will tell! I already filled out the rebate form and made a copy of the invoice. I will be mailing this in on Monday. I will need the 500.00 for more parts!
