UNION JACK Special Edition?

NO luck finding anything on this. It's a 75 GMC Sierra Classic, 454, burgundy interior.
Folks bought in fall of 78. Have seen a similar special edition, but nothing with the Union Jack logo on the top of the rear quarters. Just ran across this photo, always wondered the history. Anyone?

Re: UNION JACK Special Edition?

I have seen these trucks with the same side stickers but don't remember the Union Jack logo

Look like it might be a Indy 500 Pace truck

Check out this page

http://www.73-87.com/Special_Editions/Impact.htm
and this one:
http://www.73-87.com/Special_Editions/Indy_Hauler.htm

At least most of that package was an appearance package from Motortown Corporation that could be added when you ordered your truck from GM. I'm not sure the history behind the Union Jack logo. We haven't seen any documentation on this package before. It shares most of its decals with the "Impact '76" trucks (not to be confused with the Spirit of '76 trucks which were a different deal.). Like the post above says, they also used these decals on the 1975 Official GMC Indy 500 trucks (and replicas sold at dealers) but without the Union Jack logo.

Re: UNION JACK Special Edition?

Great info. Definitely similarities. Cant think ofany reason for the unique logo, except some kind of special tribute of some kind. Might need to further research the pace trucks maybe.
Question.... does any of these specialty trucks reveal themselves in the vin in any way??
This truck was still in the local yard not to long ago. Also have more original photos trying to locate..

Re: UNION JACK Special Edition?

Reading the 75 indy info, says gm was to make 500 "replicas" makes sense, but the logo....

Re: UNION JACK Special Edition?

Bumping this.
Any ideas why this logo? British driver tribute? Only 3 Brits had won up to this point
