67-72 GMC Grills
I have a 71 GMC and would like to have an all chrome Grill. The 71-72 has a chrome grill that is painted black in the center sections and the 68-70 does not have these areas painted black.
I am planning on buying a new grill from LMC, Bothers, or Classic. Can I buy the 68-70 Grill and use it on my 71 without any modifications? It appears the fenders and grill outer trim are the same 68-72 on the GMC. |

You can use the older grill. Generally you can remove the paint from a 72 grill and have an all chrome grill as well. They look just fine all chrome.
You can use the 67-68 grill too but you have to add the later top bar to them.

Re: 67-72 GMC Grills
all 67-72 GMC grilles have the exact same dimensions and are totally interchangeable. The top bar is a separate part and those are also totally interchangeable. The only difference in the grilles is in the design/styling. The top bar goes by the hood, 67/68 or 69-72.
You can strip the accent paint off a 71/72 grille, but you will still have a different grille with a different design. It might be the narrower bars and smoother look more than lack of black paint that caught Tap500's eyes.

Re: 67-72 GMC Grills
So if I use the 71-72 top and side trim on my 1971, I can use any 67-72 grill?
I was planning on using the 68-70 grill and stripping the paint off. The 71-72 has more paint to strip. Thanks |

Any Key Part dealer can help you with a all chrome 71-72 style with no paint.
