Dolphin Retrofit Gauges in 1950 Help!

I bought my 1950 truck as a project and it did not come with original gauges and I have never seen it assembled. It did come with a nice set of Dolphin gauges all boxed up so fast forward to tonight when I got a surprise while trying to install them

The holes in the dash are larger than the gauges so I can only assume I am missing some trim rings or parts that need to be fabbed up.

This is what I have with measurements, for those who have gone through this can you please share what parts I am missing and how you were able to get yours mounted up?

Thanks,

Re: Dolphin Retrofit Gauges in 1950 Help!

you need a set of adapter rings, dolphin may make them but most other gauge companies make them too. like these from classic
summit classic rings

I am not saying these will absolutely work for your application, just showing you what does work and may actually work if you measure correctly and compare them. Most gauge companies stick to that standard size for gauges, and chevy 47-53 gauges will always be slightly larger, so these products exist.

Awesome, I think those will work and the price is right.

Thanks!

Re: Dolphin Retrofit Gauges in 1950 Help!

Thanks for all of the guidance. The parts came in today so I figured I would post my results.

I ordered the Classic Instruments adapter rings and mounting tabs from Summit Racing and the Dolphin gauges fit the adapter perfectly and the new bezel fits the dash nicely. The mounting kit/tabs, not so much.

We had to do some bending to make the mounting brackets match up to the studs that stick out of the dash but they are thin metal which is fairly easy to bend. Bottom line is the Classic Instruments kit will work with the Dolphin Gauge set.

The parts required can be found on the Classic Instruments web site.

47-53 Chevy Truck Bezel- Available is all series part #BZ4753 (Note you will need to order TWO of these even though they are pictured in a pair) Ask me how I learned this The pictures show 2 and there is a plural S in the wording but in the small print it says sold individually.

47-53 GM Pickup Mounting Kit part #MTBRGMK (One kit for 2 holes)

This picture shows the adapter ring installed on the left gauge.

This picture shows the adapter ring.

This picture shows the adapter ring being installed onto the gauge.

This picture shows the adapter ring installed on the left gauge plus the mounting hardware.

This is a picture of the adapter ring installed and the rear mounting racket from the dolphin gauge installed along with the Classic Instruments mounting tabs. Note the mounting tabs on the right of the picture have been bent inward to line up with the dash studs. The left side still needs to be bent.

This is a back side shot showing how the mounting tabs need to be bent.

Great follow up! Glad it worked out for you. Alot here do not post the final outcome after a question is asked. I'm guilty of that too!
Looks great!
