Shop refrigerator thread!!!

Ok guys. I was in my shop moving things around and decided to clean up my shop fridge. It got me thinking about everyone else's.

Does anyone have a cool one? An old one? Dirty one? Stickered one? Painted one? Etc.

If you don't have a fridge. What would you like to have???

Mine is a 1950' GM Frigidaire
Made only by General Motors.

It Works great. I did have to make a door seal and re wire it as the wiring was original and brittle.

The Chevy emblem was put on by my son.

Re: Shop refrigerator thread!!!

I don't currently have a garage fridge (just a freezer) but if I did, it would look just like that one. Cool old cold box.

Re: Shop refrigerator thread!!!

I have a fridge in my shop that was in our house when we bought it.
We bought a new one for the house and I got this one for the shop.
I'd like to have a vintage one for looks.
The side by side fridge wouldn't be my first choice but it work.

It's just got some stickers, magnets & photos of my past rides on it.

I have looked at the wraps & magnetic fronts for it online but havent bought one.

That refer is a 1725 rpm r502 unit. It uses about 5 amps of 110 power. A new unit is a 3450 rpm and pulls 10-13 amps. Just because it has a energy star on it doesn't make it more efficient. The problem with these are the refrigerant. Bad for the ozone. But it works fine. So until than I am keeping it.

I built my truck and didn't worry about efficiency, how about you? Did you put a 4 cylinder your truck? It would pay for the truck in a few years. Lol.

I wouldn't care if it cost me double to use it!

Re: Shop refrigerator thread!!!

Those old refers are really cool. Wish I still ahd one of our old ones from the late 50s or 60s. And you are correct First C10, there are so many misconceptions about efficiency. The bottom line is, how many amps it runs at what voltage. A good portion of our population is brainwashed by green power and efficiency. It can be sickening when most of it is propaganda. Love those old fridges. But I do have a mac daddy stainless sink.

Re: Shop refrigerator thread!!!

It not just amps and volts but time as well. If you really want to know, buy or borrow a Kill-A-Watt meter and use the KwH button for a week. Multiply that number by 52 then your cost per KwH to get your yearly cost.

I think a lot of the newer efficiency is really better/thicker insulation. When I replaced a noisy old 80s era kitchen fridge, it had about 1 inch of insulation. The new one looks to have about 2~3 inches. I think the really old ones had better insulation then the ones from the 70s and 80s.

Re: Shop refrigerator thread!!!

i like those old refrigerators , but they are death traps for small children if they have the old latches. They are super reliable and last a lot longer than the new stuff. but guys if yours has the old type of latching handle that doesnt allow you to push it open from the inside, then please modify it , replace it or scrap it.
back in the old days a lot of small kids smothered to death inside them. thats why the more modern ones use a gravity/ magnetic type closure.
I know that a lot of the younger board members may not be aware of the
issue. just putting it out there. Tony

This one was in the garage, in a party house, outside for a while, and then got pressed into regular kitchen duty before it died.

Re: Shop refrigerator thread!!!

Did I stumble on to a Prius board by accident? It's cool, it's functional, and I wish I had a fridge like that.
