Steering box advice needed.

Mine is leaking bad. I've heard it's a PITA to rebuild one. I've found rebuild replacements from $100 - $300. Is that the right way to go or are there other options like using a later model box from a junk yard....etc.

I'm in the same boat with you but my reasons are a bit different. My box is fine but it is not the "quick ratio" version. Looking to update to the 3 1/2 turn version.

I found a thread here that listed compatible salvage yard trucks as far as swappable steering box goes. Wasn't able to locate it again though

I'm looking at a rebuilt one from LARES but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Thanks for the reply. I just spoke to Early Classic Enterprises and they have a 3:1 and a 4:1. $220 and $270 respectively. Only bad thing is that they require a $90 core charge and they don't pay to ship it back to them. That might not be cheap from Texas to Cali.

Classic Heartbeat Quick Ratio "Red Head" brand box. Wes has a deal with Red Head who makes the best reman boxes out there IMO and I've installed a number of them on customers trucks over the years.

Box is $349.99 and there is a $150 core.
